Question T-Belt tensioner?

Could a bad timing belt tensione be mistaken for the infamous isuzu lifter tick? I have a 97 3.2 rodeo with 117,000 and i've tried evything from motor flush (2 doses) to synthetic oil to transmission fluid without any of these helping the noise. Any help would be appreciated. I have also heard that "sea foam" will help a lifter tick, or "Rislone" . I may try these next. Has anyone used these and had any luck?

Re: T-Belt tensioner?

If you have no history on the truck, I would change out your timing belt ASAP along with the tensor and the water pump.

Re: T-Belt tensioner?

I do know that the timing belt was changed around 60 or 70k but i don't know about the tensioner. Why is the tensioner such a big problem?

Could the timing belt tensioner be making the clicking noise I keep hearing that comes and goes? Its not a metalic clicking, like lifters. I have a stethoscope and have pinpointed the noise coming from right behind the fan pulley. I was thinking maybe fan clutch, or t-belt tensioner.

Re: T-Belt tensioner?

Cat,

Sounds like you pinpointed your problem. T-belt tensor sounds like.

It could be the serpantine belt tensioner too. The noise seems even more pronounced when I place the stethoscope near that. I'll find out today though. I'm going to take all the belts off and start the engine, if the noise is still there, I know it probably the t-belt tensioner.

Well, its not anything on the outside of the engine. Still havn't ruled out water pump or t-belt tensioner. I'm starting to get scared that it might be a main or rod bearing. But the sound is intermittant and only recently became frequent enough to make me dig into it. It used to only make the noise on rare instances. Could it be a rod or main?
