Lol...i dunno...out of his ass "i reckon".
Yeah, about 5 days. He asked if I wanted the $110 valve job they do with just getting the seats regrinded, or if I wanted the $160 job and he will cut angles on the valves...I couldn't resist =)
He said the mains on the crank needed to be redone as well.
Dave- Nice one on the carwash suggestion. My intake is spotless now lol.
No problem. Glad that worked for you. Honestly, I go to the car wash and fill up gallons of that degresser stuff because I can't find anything that works that well. Soak parts in that shit overnight... rips dirt right off.

I use to do the same thing Dave.
Your compression is probably 8.8:1. Thats the most common compression we run in these motors. Im guessing your getting a 3 angle valve job. Good choice on that one. Machine work sounds a little on the high side compared to what I paid but then again every shop is different

close, 8.6:1
Well I shall update when something happens, gonna clean up some more parts, paint some stuff. I really wanna paint the intake a nice silver with some high temp paint, Make it look better...

I like to apply some kind of sealer to any surface like that. Just for piece of mind. Ideally it should be fine as is, but a very fine coating wouldn't hurt. I put on and smear it across with my finger so it's just tacky.

To give it that purty silver look, paint all the aluminum stuff with duplicolor high temp Aluminum color engine enamel. Gives it the raw aluminum look, but it wont oxide like raw alum.

You could always shell out some money and get it ceramic coated. LOVE mine. Still looks as good as when i got it done.

I painted the pieces with high temp alum silver. Did a real good job if I dont say so myself...lol, looks pretty effin sweet. I might oven cook these pieces to cure the paint...since they wont see much heat otherwise
Is it ok to clean the top of a piston with a wire brush? Or will the wire mess up the surface?

Wire brush is fine. The pistons are tough... they'll live.

Ha pistons see over 2000F temps in the combustion process. A wire brush won't even touch it

Just making sure. Dont wanna like scar the surface or anything...with my luck.

And that is mounted on the trans in the front. You'll see it in the bay from the front looking straight down.

Putting the intake manifold back together, after I clean the throttle body. Stuff is at the machine shop, and im waiting on rings and rods in the mail. As soon as I get these items(prob a week from now) ill update. I do have one more question though, I dont know how bc I labeled and categorized every nut and bolt and part, but I seem to have misplaced one engine mount bolt. How can I re-acquire this bolt(or one that will suffice)? The thing is its an odd shaped bolt so i'm not sure where i'd find one...
david-b
03-27-2010, 09:37 AM
Which mount?
boostjunkie333
03-27-2010, 07:58 PM
Cant remember which side its on, ill let you know when i put it all back together. But generally, how would I go about getting them? Dealership? Or is there an easier alternative?

03-28-2010, 02:36 AM
Junkyard is my guess. You can find most of the stuff there that you will need. I had one with a few 2g's in it that I stripped a bunch of stuff off of...
boostjunkie333
03-28-2010, 01:32 PM
Damn...the junkyard near my house is massive, you can get lost in it. But the last time I checked they didn't have any 2g's. That was a year ago though so, they could have 5 now.
SilvrEclipse
03-28-2010, 03:50 PM
We need to know which mount and what bolt it is. I would probably just go to lowes and pick one up. Any grade 8 bolt will work fine
boostjunkie333
03-29-2010, 12:22 AM
Ok. When I get out in the garage working on it again ill see which ones i do have.
Hey, the rods that were ok, do they need to be re conditioned at the shop or would they be ok?

Ok, pistons, there is like a little ring that holds the wrist pins in on each side, just want to make positive, i pop these off and use a socket to knock the wrist pin out?
david-b
03-29-2010, 11:48 PM
That will work. Don't lose or damage the pin though. And remember the direction that they came out. The pistons have to be connected to the rod and to the crank the same way. I forget the name of why, but I believe it has to do with the rotation, keeps everything from falling out/apart.

Hey does anyone know if eagle does core returns? Or should I just keep these rods as paperweights?
SilvrEclipse
03-30-2010, 07:42 PM
I doubt they do, never heard of anyone returning any. I like to keep broken parts displayed on the mantel. Problem now is i am running out of space bc i have so many broken parts

Hey, I scrubed the pistons clean, except for a teeny bit of discoloring on the underside of the pistons that I cant really get to good enough, but just in the corners, its clean as hell though. Theres somehting that stands out to me and I wanted to make sure, on the piston skirts, there is no damage, no nicks or gauges or anything physically wrong with them at all, but on like 2 of them there is like a discoloration...like wear i guess...is this bad? or normal?
david-b
04-02-2010, 04:28 PM
You talking at the bottom of the pistons? Are they the same pistons that had those messed up rods on?
SilvrEclipse
04-02-2010, 07:32 PM
On the skirts or where the rods attach? If its on the skirts then its fine.
boostjunkie333
04-02-2010, 11:13 PM
Yeah...little discoloration on the skirts
SilvrEclipse
04-03-2010, 11:08 PM
Its fine then, the skirts on my pistons are pretty scratched up from dragging on the cylinder walls a little

ok, crank is done, mains were fine. block isnt done yet, head isnt done yet(this guy is an asshole so i cant really rush him...=/)
Anyways, he says i need new exhaust valves and guides, can someone explain to me why i might need them? for educational purposes..

If you're timing has skipped the valves would hit the pistons and damage them then. And sometimes if hit hard enough that would move the guides. But not sure why otherwise.
SilvrEclipse
04-08-2010, 09:39 AM
Valves can just wear out over time. I dont know how many miles are on your head but its probably a good idea to replace the valve. I got a set of topline valve for 100$ shipped for all of them. The valves move up and down in the guides so eventually they will wear out and need to be replaced. I didn't replace the ones in my head but I probably should have.

toplines? just ur exhaust? or 100 for both sets?

Found some toplines, but I think they may be for the 4G63. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, do the springs and retainers need to be changed also or are they good to go?
