Well, i now think its 070. The ad says '97. Why would they change it to '97 if it wasn't a '97?

Why was it listed as '94 to begin with? Maybe they don't know what year the car is. :shakehead

Anyway, the car we believe to be #070 didn't have a red driver's seat insert - it was light grey. They aren't the same car.

Thats the downside of a group of "trainspotters" like us is that people are less than willing to pass out info about particular cars. Although, having said that, the ferrari spotters have the same problems so i guess its not only us. Another reason why i think we should move to a private forum format. But thats for another day...

Take this to a private forum and it will just be us chatting with each other. I can't count the amount of info and contributions that have come our way because of how readily available this forum is to everyone.

Well, communicating with Japanese is pretty hard in the first place, no matter how hard you try.
And they said something about them being prohibited by law to pass the chassis nr, according to Babelfish :) Some lame-*** excuse if you ask me ;)

I had a trip to Japan planned for next year, but things came up and it will probably be 2007 the earliest.

My source has disappeared into thin air, so I gotta find me a new one to keep us all posted.

Mini Magic, I cannot find any mentioning of an official date, but the photos seem to appear in week 47, so my best guess is the weekend of 19/20 november.

interesting wheels, must be custom, they dont appear to be lm/gtr wheels, any ideas anyone?

Definitely custom as far as F1s go - it may be an off the shelf wheel from many of the wheel distributors in Japan that was simply forged as a blank and then the hub area was machined to match the F1. There are plenty of companies in that part of the world who could do something like that and the Japanese commonly mod their supercars in more unique ways than you see in many other parts of the world.

I'm currently locked out of my SC.net account - I changed my PW to something case-sensitive over there and have now forgotten what I changed it to exactly. I'll have to play the 'Forgot Password' game with it a bit later. That's why I haven't replied over there to thank JapPerformance for finding that, or to answer your question.

As Chris states - the red stripe car is not one that we know the chassis number on. I haven't really pursued finding it to the fullest extent as I was hoping that bucialli would figure it out ;) but some people over there must know which car it is given the frequency that it is spotted.

I saw you said you only have two pics of it though - you should be able to find more searching this forum. In fact this link to several shots (http://berlingo.hp.infoseek.co.jp/photo/McLarenF1.html) is in the first post in this thread. I know there have been several more posted and linked. Unfortunately most of them are Japanese-sized photos. :disappoin

where did the f1 gt go???

The GT hasn't been in any recent pictures of the ZAZ line-up. I believe on page 1, the actual recap, I listed it as 'up for discussion'.
It was part of the Rosso magazine August 2005 edition special on F1's, however a small pic that they had on their website announcing that special, showed the same setup as on the pictures I've just shared today.

I think it could still be the ZAZ collection, just not on display. I have seen many different line-ups (check the 1996 pics, only LM2 and 053 are shown there). However, with 013R being sold, it could very well be sold too.

Maybe Shin Okamoto was interested in expanding his collection. But then again, the gems in his collection were out on a field trip at the CG November Meeting, and the GT wasn't there. However, I have the suspicion that there are a few "high-end" collections in Japan, that we aren't seeing much of on the Internet.

Maybe 'coffeym' is still lurking the forum and could provide us with some info. Otherwise I guess we all need to chip in our :2cents: to save up for a AF-F1 community sponsored visit to Japan.

On another note. I think it's so amazing how not more pics are floating around from any of the Japanese F1 fleet. The Tag Heuer one, for example, that has shown its face a few times at the Iding Power garage. How come there are not more and more decent pictures of that????

It is such a pity. Some cars with such a nice history, that we are not getting any wiser about. Just yet. Let's hope things change. Let's hope I win the lottery this Sunday, so I can buy myself a flight ticket and 2 months of holiday, to go and see these beauties and other Japanese automotive madness.

Nice find, but your guess appears to be incorrect.

#053 was confirmed to be the chassis number of the ZAZ Museum car. This car has the stickers, windshield banner and unique Fuba-style antenna, so this has to be the other one owned by Shin Okamoto which should be #031.

I haven't had a chance to ask him what wheels were on it yet. I assume he would have mentioned the alternate wheels as well if it had them. Living with me means that he certainly knows what wheels an F1 should have, plus there was another one in the room.

Hopefully he snagged a bunch of photos (I asked him to take pics), which would be nice because I only have this one hires shot of what we now know to be chassis #013.

Well the bad news is that "the grumpy bastard at the shop wouldn't let me take any pics". I figured that was a possibility since there weren't any photos in the email he sent. That's a shame, but I'd be more disappointed if they were cars we hadn't seen before.

Apparently #013 is wearing the standard F1 wheels again and does appear to be there for sale and not for some other reason. I guess I will be watching their website in the coming days/weeks to see if it appears there. We can hope...

He said that if someone wanted to go by there, they could get a few shots through the front windows. He apologizes for not doing so himself, but when he left the guy was still there watching him and making him uncomfortable. :frown:

With so many F1s over there, we really need to make some friends in Japan one of these days.
