Re: My Siverstone 97 pics

This was originally a tangent in the Silverstone 97 pic thread, but I thought that was kind of rude so I separated it.

For anyone who didn't pick up on it over at PistonHeads, it turns out that Paul Stewart's silver F1 road car with the High Downforce Kit is chassis #023.

023 1994, 23rd car built, British Racing Green

Shame to hear that the only British Racing Green F1 would have been repainted silver of all colors.

Not that silver is a bad color for the F1, but there were enough silver F1s to begin with. Couldn't the owner who ordered the refit have chosen a silver car to begin with?

Re: My Siverstone 97 pics

I believe the info is credible - it comes from someone who claims to be the car's previous owner. Somewhat humorously he was confused as to whether the chassis number was #023 or #027 initially. Since they never made a chassis #027 and #023 was originally green as he claimed, that pretty much seals it for me.

I'll try to find the link, but it was in that huge ~40 page flemke thread.

EDIT: Here's the link: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...3&t=226933&h=0

Look for the first post on the page from Master H and continue on from there. Liam Howlett owned this car prior to Paul Stewart, so I'd venture to guess that's him posting over there.

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Interesting, thanks.

Flemke mentions someone putting an F1 into the Armco at 205mph, do you think it was Thomas Bscher? Flemke also says that the person he bought the car from is on his fifth F1, but only ever owned two simultaneously, and that was for just a brief period. I am thinking it probably is Bscher? Except we know that Bscher currently owns two, so it can't be him...grrr, this is maddening, but very enjoyable.

I wish, whoever it was would post on this board or on Pistonheads. Between him, Flemke, and Mr. Selldorff, we would really learn a lot. Especially if one of them was at the heart of all the racing, as Mr. Bscher obviously was.

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

F1 Monster, The name Bernd Hahne, is the possible owner that you are looking for. He is a wealthy german business man, owner of a ferrari & maserati dealership. First owner of 040,(correct me if I am wrong) when it was mag/silver with high mirrors and highly polished std wheels. I have vhs tape of him at Nurburgring (GP circuit) driving 040 on Auto motor und sport (German tv channel Vox). He is also a competent racer, racing in the ferrari/maserati challenge series, against the likes of Thomas Bscher & co.

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Awesome, I had never heard of him. Thanks!

That's two McLarens we can scratch off our list now...the Dawes car and this one. Do you know the chassis number of the car that got destroyed at 205mph?

Also, can you post that video on the web, or send me a copy on DVD, if it's worth watching? How long is it? Thanks!!!

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

F1 Monster, Just been watching the video, its 3 minutes long. Pit garage shots with on track action, video quality not 100% though, but still interesting to watch. BMW V12 you are correct about the licence plates, rear has GB in bottom right hand corner.

Eric, That,s certainly the car, with Mr Hahne driving, he is also in the video. sorry to take your thread a little of track. But I found another video, when Eurosport visited McLaren Cars in 96. its 2 minutes long and shows six chassis in biuld. These are as follows.

049 mag/silver complete, 048 brilliant metallic blue, both complete.

052 dark blue mica, 055 mag/silver, near completion.

060 yellow monocoque start biuld, and 057 silver bare monocoque.

(Chassis info from DA) Anyone got pics of 048, please post.

F1 Monster, At present I do not have the hardware to transfer the video to dvd, but please bare with me, as it is on my jobs to do list. Once this is done . I shall share with everybody here. (Also on a more sombre note, I found regional news footage, about the Dawes crash, showing the burn,t out wreckage of his F1, A very sad incident).

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Yup, colossal loss when you consider that 3 lives were ended abruptly, and also a sad demise for a very special car.

LM, are you aware of which chassis was the one that was backed into an Armco barrier and written off? A while ago someone (was it you, I don't remember?) was selling a wall placque from McLaren that had the chassis numbers and histories listed--if it was you, and you still it or a copy of it, would you mind looking this up?

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Also, I just thought of something, and this is not aimed at just you, LM...
If you need to transfer VHS to digital format, and don't have a video capture card, or a DVD to VHS recorder/burner, you can use a digital video camera to simply tape the picture as it is playing on a nice screen (try to record it on a flat screen, not an older "fish-bowl" type of display), and then you can transfer it to your PC and upload to google videos or wherever.

I have never tried this, so I don't know what kind of quality you are going to end up with, or how much video editing it will need after all is said and done, it may be quick and dirty, but it will also be effective.

You could even tape it with a mobile phone video camera--we are so obsessed with the F1 that I think as a stopgap method for sharing via the web, even that would be well-received!!!

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Yes, A very sad incident indeed.

As for the chassis no of the 205 mph crash car. I have not got a clue.

I definitely do not own the wall plaque, that was on Ebay a while ago. If the owner of it lurks here, maybe they should come forward with the info.

I shall try to post you some form of pics or video footage as a temporary measure of the vox video.

are you sure that this german guy was the first owner of this car? when you look at the photo which peloton25 posted, you can slightly see that it still wears this plates while he is driving it....

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Possibly they were put on for delivery? I am 100% sure he is the first owner, because GM admitted as much to Peloton and tvrfreak when he mentioned that whoever crashed the car ordered a brand new replacement. And since he has had five(!), I very much doubt he is the kind to buy a used roadcar. A racecar, sure, especially one with history. But not a "regular" roadcar.

Re: Paul Stewart's F1 is apparently chassis #023

Well there's one small problem here with the previous ownership details on #040 that hopefully someone can clear up

The current owner (flemke) confirmed in that PistonHeads thread that his car belonged to someone with the initials H.S. and added "To my knowledge the man has no public profile." which rules out Bernd Hahne.

Bernd may have been the original owner of the car though - and that certainly appears to be him in the photo of the silver car with high mirrors and polished wheels that I posted.

I can't recall if flemke has ever stated that he purchased the car from its original owner though. If so we have a real problem...
