since we (probably mainly me) gets off topic so easy :evillol:
i thought we should have an area to spin shit instead of wasting other threads started by others.
for example 'detuning a bike' was mostly 4 pages of me and Z having a chat. anyway feel free to post away or not :thefinger he he just kidding. i just always wanted to use that smilie as with these :gives: :biggrin2: :chair: :flipa: :nutkick:

aussie, if you want to straight out chat, try exchanging AIM/MSN screen names with other riders. lol, though we were offtopic in the other topic, it's probably because it was a stupid subject to begin with.

I am in favour of these chat threads, although they do tend to get closed (bandwidth issues and all).

There is a certain mod (who shall remain nameless) who used to close them on principle. (Off topic?? Closed!!)
Recently, that mod has been doing less of it though.

your right but at least here some technical info may be passed on.

btw, (he he is used nerd lingo) did you get my joke at the beginning of that thread. i was expecting a reply from at least tangie or yourself

well then i think you missed using this - :aus:

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 12:56 AM
ive used that one!

thanks for the info Magic but it think we need them so as not to pollute the other threads

i agree, especially with my random bike questions, its not worth making a new thread for one measly newbie question, true?

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 01:40 AM
i guess this is a good place to ask how i can go about putting a pic of a bike up on here for you all, i want to find out what it is :)

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 01:44 AM
i did it ages ago but in the members gallery you can store photos and we can go look at them by searching your name/photos

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 02:03 AM
uhhhhh... how?? :) i've had a look around in my User CP, but no luck.. where can i upload it?

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 02:15 AM
ok go to gallery at the top of the page header under the logo. when that opens go to the login option on the top right of the photo page but under the header. then you'll have the option to upload photos and we can then look at them by searching your name

Too New To Know

ok dude, done! hope you know what it is (crosses fingers)

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 02:36 AM
it's bloody small but i think going by the size of the rear tyre and the twin discs on the front and by the tank its a bike :naughty:

just kidding. it looks to be a naked version of a zx9 but i dont know my nakeds as well as others

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 02:41 AM
haha ok, is that a bit of a fashion statement to rip the fairings off?
and what the hell are you doing at this time of the day? dont you have a job?

Z_Fanatic
07-30-2004, 02:43 AM
 he's a lucky man, his wife works and he blows all the savings.

it's naked because the guy is using it for stunts.

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 02:49 AM
most naked bikes are a version of another eg fazer1000=R1 and there is a naked zx9 but i don't know its name. they are similar but not quite the same. usually not quite bum-up-head-down as sports versions

i work but i usually finish at 330pm. my work is 2 min from my house but today i bludged. Z-man's right though, my wife works and i spend the money. isn't that what all good wives do. she has to cook and clean to while i watch the 500gp's. i fear a tangie comeback on this one :naughty:

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 03:19 AM
ahh ok fair enough... your opinion on the bike, z?

Z_Fanatic
07-30-2004, 03:20 AM
ummm if it's ZX-9 like Blayne said, what else can I say? Stay away from it? :D Even if it's not, it seems to be 600 or above.

Too New To Know

actually she does and she rip your nuts off :boink:
she's18 and pretty hot. nice headlights
not certain if its a zx9 but it looks similar. i test rode the 9 when i bought mine and the only thing i didn't like was that when i rode it it felt /looked like my old 1996 gsxr750. if i'm buying a 2003 model bike i don't want a bike that looks/feels 7 yrs old. still they are a good sport tourer. i know i know they are a sports bike but compared to the new breed they are more comfy tourer than back-ache sports

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 05:50 AM
ok... so say i ride this shitty lil 250 for a while, and i start to really grow fond of riding (loved it back in my days of dirt, can see why i wouldnt now), what are some good alternatives to move up to?

I want to be able to kick alot of peoples arses, bike or car, but i want a fair good level of comfortability, and handling because i'd really like to start getting serious on some tracks after a while....

basically i want a bike that's superb all-round.. is there such a thing?

and what are some pro's and cons of each.... :)

that should keep you busy for a bit ;)

hehehehee

Too New To Know
07-30-2004, 06:21 AM
OH OH, about the bikes, they must have a steering damper, or, if these are not worth two arms and two legs, ill fit one afterwards... speaking of which, anyone know any modification sites for bikes?? :)

Only Igor can change your name. If you email/PM Igor@af and tell him what you want it to be, after about 2 months of pleading he'll change it... Okay, so I'm sorta joking about the 2 months thing. He tends to be a lil busy.

As for off-topic conversations... we have a WHOLE forum for that stuff. I went on a lil tirade last night about off-topic and closing threads b/c they were worthless. This thread has (oddly enough) found a trend in terms of topic, so I'm going to leave it open. Just remember, if you go into the main forums index, choose Coffee Break, then Completely Off-Topic and take a look around. :)

awww your so nice tange!!! fanx for letting us have the thread! not that im trying to push my luck, but why are we so lucky as to be able to keep it??

is it my good looks? or blaynes nice bike? :P

hahaha I'm just hoping to one day kick all your asses on the track, so I'm leaving it open. :p

But honestly, (before I hijack it and turn it into something "off topic") I see a lot of good information being passed on in this thread, so as long as it continues, the thread may stay open.

07-30-2004, 03:15 PM
thanks tangie :smooch:

as i've posted before lynden. i went out and test rode all the second hand 600's because of my budget.by the time you ready to upgade, you'll get a 2002 model for around 9kaus. things like R6, cbr600f4,zx6r and gsxr600. i'll assume that you will have a tight budget due to this purchase being on finance. i can't emphasise enough that you should spend good money on the safety gear and not as much on the bike

ps. i'm 30 :crying: but my sister-in-law is 18 and single. big problem is her dad. army reservist guy with a gun collection (inc mag357) and teaches TAFE. very scary guy

aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 03:19 PM
oh yeah as for dampers. you dont NEED one but once you tried it you cant go back. they cost from 700aus

Too New To Know
07-31-2004, 04:22 AM
yeah im just looking down the line a bit later on, when i get the gsx250, im not spending a cent on it, unless it needs it to go vroom vroom!... what do you suggest as for gear? the whole enchilada? or just helmet, jacket, gloves for now??

Too New To Know
07-31-2004, 04:37 AM
by the way, just went on a bit of a long trip in my car, its nothing special, but its fairly rare to see these days, i passed about 4 of these cars today (more like they passed me) and they all looked liked they'd just smelt the worst fart ever, chin up and giving me the "im better than you" look...

meanwhile, i found a cbr 600rr on the way home and followed for a while (going same way home anyway) and eventually got next to him, he caught me drooling over the bike and once i realised, i stuck my thumb up (to you yanks, thats a "g'day mate" type thing) and he returned the favour.
Then when we parted roads and i gave him a honk of the horn and he returned again with a friendly wave.... its really really refreshing to see how friendly the motorbike people are, its like one big, two wheeled happy family :) made my day

aussieidiot
07-31-2004, 05:45 PM
you get people all the time saying g'day. i try to be friendly so as not to intimidate people the way the old stigma of 'bikies' did. the best is when i'm out with the misses and we see a little boy or girl in a baby seat and they all want to wave at my wife. one thing that really shits me is when you park your bike and dads try to put their kids on my bike without asking if its ok. so many times i've come back to my car and found a kid sitting on it :killbarne

as for gear. budget is the first consideration. when i bought my 1st bike it came with a pack but i didn't want cheap shit. i'm a brand snob and only want good stuff because i know i will need it someday. there is a difference in quality. any way so i upgraded the pack and bought a shoei x9 helmet (in white to save money but still top of the line), a leather dainese jacket (and still have the same) and dainese gloves (since replaced with full race carbon jobbies) and wet suit. i later bought cheap leather pants (sold later to another newbie) and boots and later replaced the pants with dainese ones that zip into jacket and dainese race boots.
total initial spend 1500 (helmet jacket gloves)
then 400 (pants boots)
replacement spend 1100 (pants boots)

later again bought a wet weather dainese jacket and have recently replaced my helmet.

basically if you buy good quality it will last and its an investment in your health. it will generally fit better and therfore and to your riding pleasure

on a side note a mate of mine went down at 30k's in an RJ's jacket and jeans and the jackets stitches tore out and his jeans tore off yet i've seen good leathers go for a 200k slide andnot even wear through. just buy what you can afford but i personally wouldn't buy something that is cheap and needs replacing again soon. i learnt my lesson. there are jeans out there that are as good as leathers, redmax and draggin jeans

Too New To Know
08-01-2004, 05:35 AM
leather just sounds alot more protective though, even if i sweat like O.J on trial, i'll still feel safer... even though i wont be going over the speed limit for a long time to come yet, i like my skin, and it should stay on me, not ground into the road.. like you said, which i've repeated to a few of my mates, spend as much as on your helmet as you think your heads worth... and the rest of the gear i guess

08-01-2004, 05:40 AM
hey Blayne, where would you get those riding jeans? I don't suppose they sell it in local malls next to Levi's or CK. leather pants might be chaffin on a hot day :headshake, which is basically all year here. and there's also the image factor, when non-riding buddies mistake you for queer-eye for straight guy model.

The name's Mac btw.

dragginjeans.com should give you a hint of where to find them. The dark colored ones look just like plain-old dark jeans. I have never seen the light ones in person. Icon also has a version of the kevlar reinforced jeans.

aussieidiot
08-03-2004, 03:40 AM
been a bit busy lately dad. but apparently i missed someone special's birthday. sorry tangie! also i seem to have a new nick name that really sucks. on a technical note just to keep this thread from being shut down. BLOODY MECHANICS. when my bike was in for a service it came back with a flat spot above 6000. it wouldn't rev above that at all. when i took it back the f@#kn' dickhead took it out and my wife saw the wanker doing wheelies on my bike. can't wait for revenge on that one. had a big go at the bloke and got him fired but still want justice. no rest till he is dead

ps i'm too lazy to use my shift key but you already know that :) HE HE

Z_Fanatic
08-03-2004, 03:57 AM
what's wrong, don't like the nick Aussman? :D

got his ass really fired? and big boss believed you that he was doing wheelies? mechanics here are arrogant, liars, and won't believe a word you say after they fuk up your ride. how'd your wife no it was your bike? could've been some other red 954, hehe.

Too New To Know
08-03-2004, 04:21 AM
thats so f%*$@& up, i hate dodgy mechanics, it gives the ones that actually care a bad name...

blayne - my advice, learn to fix it yourself, i wouldnt let anyone touch my pride and joy, not even my diesel holden gemini!

aussieidiot
08-03-2004, 04:21 AM
not many, if any, have a spotlight in the lower fairing for wheelies. pretty easy to spot! he even admitted it!!

Had a run the other night with my misses on the back and got into a drag with a WRX. the wanker thought he could win. he nailed it and once I was moving i nailed it and flew past him still in first at 80mph.
i love my bike almost as much as this forum.

Also to Lynden. i think i saw the bike you were questioning. it may be a kawasaki ZR9. i saw a ZR7 and it looked the same but a smaller rear tyre. i need my bike serviced by a mechanic (dealer)to keep the warranty

also redmax jeans are available on the net from australia and are a bit better than draggin in the style factor. they come black with red stitching but i could be biased coz my bikes red/black. if you need a nick for me try 'skip', 'oz' or just plain 'idiot'. aussman sucks. i call you Z-man coz fanatic take to long and i'm too lazy to find out your real name and if it's ok to call you by it in the threads

Z_Fanatic

Z-dude, you have me confused with someone who races. thats not me. "He who doesn't race may be assumed to be slow. He who races and lose removes all doubt!". besides my wife controls my nuts. without them i can't possibly race. Steve Urwin is a f@#kn' dickhead who is NOT a typical Aussie and does not speak for me or anyone i know!

yet again we take over a thread. all my replies will now be over in offtopic. sorry

 so that tearing up WRX was fictional?

I like Dundee's crocodile jokes though.

sorry dude. the O is so far away compared to the E

the jeans have Kevlar stitching and are reinforced in the slide zones. they are as resilient as leather and are about $200aus.

I didn't get Mac's name. it wasn't that i didn't care, i just couldn't be bothered to read entire post. He He He. also my licence plate on my bike is IDI-07 hence idiot. 'oz'will do just fine. now to get lyndon a name!

what do you suggest for jackets?

hey z, my wife had my nuts on board that day hehe.

as for jackets, i'd go alpinestar if i could do it all over again. spend good money. at least $700aus. the new dainese are good and come with really good padding but are around a grand.

look at the big purple giraffe in the corner. come here big fella. give us a hug.i need to stop sniffing exhausts

you can spend less but you'll want a better jacket and a trendier one once you really get into the sport. so that money will be wasted. a jacket is something you'll have for ages. mines lasted 8 yrs and three bikes

check out www.gobike.com.au for prices on alpinestars and dainese
