I'm sorry to hear that, Z. :( Quite the shit, eh?

So, about those TPS reports...

Sorry to hear that Z.
As Hurricaine Ivan might get to you by the week end, our thoughts are with you.
Just leave that plywood nailed to your house for a while longer.

and to Magic, woohoo someone older than me. i thought i was the old fart or the forum. but your only as old as the woman you feel. he he

haha, thats a good one.
I may have mentioned elsewhere, I've been riding since 1975, as I started when I was 10. Thats longer than just about anyone else I know.
I base this longevity on my little-old-lady riding style. (Too slow to do myself much of an injury. )
A while back I hit the trails with some truly demented postal workers who all thought 70 mph through the tight woods was perfectly reasonable.
As I was somewhat slower, I could tell they were just a bit impatient with me. One of them asked me:
" how long have you been riding, Are you a novice?
I said 'oh, I've been riding just about 30 years."
They replied: 'Okay........Gee....maybe you should just tell the others you're just a beginner."

Just bought an awesome book the other day, cost me 40 Aussie bucks, but well worth it, at about 2 and a half inches thick, containing every sportbike that ever made an impact on the market up to 2003, dedicating 2 pages of pictures an information and specs to each bike, its even got a Goldwing in it! hahahah learnt a fair bit from it though, great buy :)

yeerrrrp, just thought id share that :D

going for my licence in 3 weeks or so

oh also blayne, found ANOTHER model bike that seems to be going damn cheap, gpx250's.. looking a 95 for $2,500!! is there any reason for this price? are they severly underpowered or something?

Pistolpete
09-14-2004, 10:22 AM
yeh bro nice bike lol (thats the one im gettin)

they are basically the older model of the zzr, they use the same engine except they are 10kg or so lighter, just a ninja 250 in the states.

but at that price i would be wary of it
normally a bit more expesive.

09-14-2004, 11:34 AM
ohhh yeah thats right, i remember you saying a while ago! :) hows that going anyway? still getting that same one?

ive been looking at a few, that being the cheapest of the lot but there are ones for around $200-$400 more and just as new... *shrugs*, when the time comes to buy, if i like it and i cannot find any apparent problems ( after a decent thrashing of a test-drive of course ;) ) then ill buy it :) and with my new job, i can have it in 2 months if i manage to discipline myself and budget properly...

must get gear first though, i know i wont be able to hold myself back from riding it without!

also how would one of these fellas hold up for a journey from melbourne to brisbane? i was thinking of going to see my brother up there and thought it might be good to get a big amount of riding experience in one hit... opinions ?

Oh, I don't know if this book is available in Oz or not, but I have heard that "Twist of the Wrist" parts 1 and 2 are really exceptional books. I have been meaning to read them, but haven't had the money to spend on them. As I've been told, the book doesn't make a lot of sense when you are just reading, but I guess when you go out and ride after reading it, pieces start to come together. Some of the book is race/track theory, but it still applies to the street with countersteering and stuff like that. Just a thought.

i friend of mine has plenty of books on bikes, i should ask him about them cause thers heeps of useful info around.

As for the GPX situation every week brings it a little closer, i decided i was going to save up for half of it then take out a loan for the other half.
give me about 4 more weeks and ill have the first half, then ill take out the loan for the rest.

the good thing is that im not selling my car soon either so ill have a bike and a car for a bit, go team!

as for budgeting propery the only advice i can give u is: Get rid of it quick, either get it put straight into a savings account, or if u get paid in cash (like me) then go deposite it straight away, cause the longer u have it in ur sticky little hand the harder it is not to spend it.
lol this week i only have $25 to live on due to me being slack last weekend and not working, so looks like the gf will b paying for dinner on sat!

09-15-2004, 01:39 AM
hahahahahahhah!
yeah that's true i might get my gf to put it away somewhere safe each payday for me, and tell her straight up no matter how desperate i get, not to give me any until its time to buy (unless some mafia comes after my fingers with a pair of pliers)

Tange that book sounds useful, if im ever feeling slighty energetic, ill go hunt for it at the local bookstore.. think they might even be able to order it in for me :)

the zzr was the sports version and the gpx is the sport tourer version. as for long haul rides, i went from sydney to tamworth (4hrs at speed limit or 5 on "p"s many moons ago) amd it was a killer. bike was to small to move around on and trucks would blow you off the road as they overtook. i ended up putting my shins on the rear passengers footpegs and resting my forearms on the bars and just rolling my forearm to increase speed. wait for a bigger bike so you can move around

also rode from sydney to nelsons bay (2hrs in car) with misses on the back and that was crippling. had to stop every half hour to move frozen joints

hrmmm damn...
im not a huge guy though, so room really isnt a BIG issue, kinda had my heart set on touring up there :(
damn :(
but it IS the tourer version, so it's got to be more comfortable yes?

aussieidiot
09-17-2004, 04:00 AM
tourer is generally less bum up head down style so better on the wrists

Too New To Know
09-17-2004, 09:41 AM
but still you wouldnt reccommend those kind of distances (melb to qld) on a bike? (obviously stopping off to sleep one night and various other stops for a rest and munchies)...

aussieidiot
09-17-2004, 03:30 PM
via sydney it'd be roughly 20 hrs and i reckon after 2 you'd be thinking twice and at 4 you'd turn back especially on a small bike on your own. I'd give it a go with a riding buddy on a larger sport tourer (96 yzf1000) but not on a 250.

hey lyndon, i just sold my gti. i don't recommend them because it would be hard to find one thats clean and not fully thrashed. very weak gearboxes too. mine sold for $6500 without stereo. 100 000 k's, one year rego, new tyres, immaculate inside with leather trim and full momo accessories. new suspension, full king springs and koni's and full race spec brakes. was in magazines and stuff but now they are old.

try a SSS pulsar. not really a hatch but better than a gti or a baleno gtx. we had one as well as my wifes car and it was great. not as zippy as the gti but still good. most small quick cars will be hatches. also try old evo's or laser tx3 4wd turbo in sedan

yeh some good options there

a friend of mine has a nx coupe, not a bad ride targa top with the sr20, decent little package

how much she looking to spend?
so many options, if she has around 8 grand she should look into things like silvias or 180's, older supras, lots of options

iv checked into the import scene so much over the last 2 years and have thought about buying almost every single car at some point, so i do know i bit about em

speediva
09-21-2004, 05:09 PM
The SR20DE motor is sooooooooo kick ass! I LOVE IT. Okay, I love it except when changing oil filters... damn japs with their tiny hands, but yet as a girl I can't even fit my hands down in there. But it's a great motor for me, and it's over 10 years old. Just changed out the front exhaust pipe, and a month or so before that, the cat-back (all OEM, not worth putting fun $$$ into it now), and hopefully that will be it for a while.

aussieidiot
09-21-2004, 11:11 PM
i rate the NX but the first step should be insurance. check out whats reasonable for what car. no point paying $2000 a year for a $5000 gti

Too New To Know
09-22-2004, 03:25 AM
yeah thats the thing she's got a bit to spend (anywhere from 12-15, depending on how much she likes it) , but cars with forced induction from the factory are going to be alot more to insure... althought the SSS is a nice car... NX front is uuuuuuuuugly :P but other than that its a pretty cool lil car... dunno bout how much room there is in the back though..

so heres the catagory im thinkin... N/A, 2 door (but with decent back seat space, its still going to have its commuting duties) stylish car, doesnt have to have to be fast, i can tinker with that section...

althought some of the *gulp* lancers she's having a look at are pretty damn good, with your 17inch mag's and an evo bodykit, lowered and usually a stereo to boot... for around 13,000... thats not a bad deal really... i just really, REALLY... REAAAAALLLY hate the f%@kers.... unless they are genuinely EVO's.. now theres a nice car..

Pistolpete
09-23-2004, 01:32 AM
hmmm she sounds like she has a good budget to work with but personally i woudlnt touch a misubishi with a 10 foot pole not even an evo.

have u thought about a subaru liberty, nice cars and pretty quick to if u get the right model.

maybe a celica sx, with an engine swap and a nice kit they are MEAN!

how about an old M3?

n/a silvias or 180's, or a prelude

on a budget like hers she could get plenty or really nice cars, i wouldnt bother with a sss, there are far better rids available within her reach.

aussieidiot
09-23-2004, 03:08 AM
sorry. my bad. i though she had around 8k to spend. tough price bracket. personally i love the older mitsubishies but now they are like aholes. everyones got one. hondas are good but expensive to insure and beemers are over rated. what about a mazda 323 sp20. you might find them that low now since the 3 is out now

aussieidiot
09-23-2004, 03:31 AM
hey lyndon, go to
www.carsales.com.au and do some research there. i found a 300zx for 14000 or a eunos 500 for 10000

Pistolpete
09-24-2004, 07:33 AM
or a mazda 626 turbo

yeh thats a great site, thought about importing?

Too New To Know
09-24-2004, 11:09 AM
haha nah calm down fellas.. by NO means is she an import enthusiast... she says the only look that's caught her eye is the lancer, although she hasnt really looked that hard.. she something around that kind of shape if you get what i mean.... speed isnt a big thing because me or her doesnt want her to kill herself... just a new-age sporty style... and she's been spending a bit of time in her mates 2door coupe and she hates the whole 'slide your way in' to the back seats.... so im thinking maybe a 4 door SSS would be nice :D .... i showed her a few pics of the GTiR and no luck, its 'too small, wouldnt feel safe in it'... so now we are after a non-ballistic, 4 door sporty thing :)

btw sorry i havent been talking, once again, spent the weekend at her house.. heheheh :D :D :D :D

Nissan Primera - I think we discussed before that it's not called that in Oz, but I know it's called that in Kiwiland. SR20 motor (can be swapped for the DET) and 4 doors. Oh, and insurance (at least in the States) is relatively cheap.
