you mean in the last photo? I superglued that disc, I didn't solder it like the first one. It was just a mistake, I didn't glue it close enough

here's my oil cooler, I really don't think I can get myself to paint it black like it says in the instructions.

100% metal, 10 pieces

here is the oil cooler with mounting brackets.
I refuse to paint the whole thing black, it would hide the detail to an unacceptable level. Not to mention when the model is finished you will be able to see where the $1400 transkit Kicks It Up A Notch on the base F40.

"This wonderful model has the following technical features: Working steering mechanism, key-operated opening doors, opening headlights, working suspension, opening hood and trunk etc."

the engine building process starts at step 10 of 59, i can't do anything without the base f40 - which i just ordered

So let me get this right...
You bought a trans-kit for $1400 and then bought the F-40 donor kit for $700, a total of $2100??

I've got one thing to say...FUC*ING HELL!!

You can remove excess superglue with very fine sandpaper or model knife.

dont forget the $300 stock cnc machined aluminum stock f40 rims as well as the $300 i spent on accessories!!!

fatboyslim
07-02-2003, 02:27 PM
So you're telling me you spent $2700 on this model??
JEEZUS!! That's about £2000!! My real car was only £1500!!!!

You must have a well paid job to do this that for me would be 2 months wage and that I just could NOT justify!!

SupercarFreak
07-02-2003, 05:45 PM
i like cars.

it would be 2 months wage for me too, but i don't see how it isn't justified - 2 months of work for a model that I will have forever.

so I bought the last things for my F40, 1 set of stock F40 aluminum rims and another set of LM rims which I will keep unpainted, that brings the total to a wallet-draining $3,128

RX7FD
07-08-2003, 06:01 PM
Damn, I would never even consider spending that much money on a model. On the 1:1 WRX Id have no problems tho:biggrin: . Awesome job on the model so far:bigthumb:

MythosGR
07-08-2003, 06:05 PM
Really an awesome project and the details are really out of this world...Just one things wasn't the OZ racing wheels going to be white?Don't know if they will look as good as the white one's in the end but after all it is your model...

Great work and keep the updates(and of course pics) coming...

P.S:With 3000 US I could fully upgrade my car to up to GT(I'm already saving 1 year and I'm still at 2000 US) but on the other hand this thing is the next match to having a real F40 in your garafe so may I say money well spent if F40 is your dream car...and from the amount spent you are certainly a Ferrari lover(aren't we all???)

:)

SupercarFreak
07-08-2003, 06:12 PM
:) :)

yeah, the LM wheels are supposed to be white, but I have this video of a red F40 with black 5-spoke wheels and it looks menacing. I am getting a 2nd set of the LM rims so I can try out every color known to man to see which looks best, plus I can always strip the rims of paint.

a little update for you guys

here's some eye candy, my finished stock F40 wheel

what I did: waxed the outer rim, removed 25 rivets from a photoetch plate and sanded off the remaining sprue, used a template to glue each rivet by hand, cleaned up the white metal center, painted it silver, glued it to the rim, attached a watchmaker screw to simulate a tire valve and painted the tip black to simulate a rubber cap, then attached a balancing weight

I have just one small gripe...
Being an ex-Kwik-Fit fitter I would of thought that with a car such as this that the wheels would be statically balanced, which means that the wheel weights would be stuck on the INSIDE of the wheel, so no unsightly weights to spoil the smooth lines!!

I take it the holes in the lights are for globes? if not, you should put some working LEDs in them!

I was thinking about this project the other day, but I haddn't realised you didn't have the base kit yet...

And I must say those lights look amazing!
