I am thinking about putting some LEDs in there. There are actually holes in the red headlight housing, so it would work perfect. Imagine how cool that would look outside at night!!!

The drilling has begun. It will require filing, putty and sanding.

I have decided to paint the F40 black. Red or black, what say you?

guys, what to use to strip the paint? My castrol superclean isn't working!

well, i've tried nail polish and laquer thinner now as well, none of them work.

well, i've tried nail polish and laquer thinner now as well, none of them work.

try brake fluid as a last resort...and aircraft remover as a last, last, last resort.

may have to sand it to bare metal, prep metal, prime, etc.

i fear you'll have adhesion problems on the bare metal.

thank you for the advice. i might just take it to a body shop to be painted, and make them use a self-etching primer which I heard works perfectly

Every time I view this thread I start to think I should that maybe ~$3000 wouldn't be so much after all... maybe some day in distant future, if there are any of Pocher and Autograph superdetailing kits left then :sunglasse

You could ask if they could media blast the red parts at the bodyshop with some fine media. Usually they have media blasting cabinets and that would give the primer a nice etched surface to stick onto.

86_SR5, I got e-mailed about your post asking how big it is, there's 2 pics on page 4 comparing it to my 1:12 scale McLaren F1, I have huge hands and long fingers and the front hood doesn't fit in my palm.

So, is it going to be black?? IMHO, candy red with those black rims would be, superb.

SupercarFreak
11-05-2003, 06:55 PM
most likely red, black is my 2nd choice.
I like the candy red idea, you know that saleen S7 in it? amazing color

do you have a link to this paint? does tamiya make it?

Hmm, I don't know that anyone makes that paint. I'm sure, if you use airbrush, that you could have a paint shop mix a batch maybe a pint or so for the car, seeing as you have loads of cash; shouldn't be a problem.

SchuberT

I think the body is around 10 pounds alone :)
the transkit is well over 10 pounds so when the F40 is finished it will probably be around 25 pounds.

that is my beloved 4 megapixel sony dsc-s85. i've taken 8,500 pics with it since i bought it in january 2003. it takes amazing pics, see for yourself here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=149816

You know....after the money I've put into multiple RC cars....$3000 is not alot to spend on a work of art like that. I have been totally flaberghasted since the beginning of this thread...but those brakes...all polished up.... :worshippy

I don't think I should look at this thread again (of course I will) because I have broken two keyboards so far just from my jaw slamming into it.

Good choice with the colour, you can't bastardise a Ferrari with candy Red, that's the preserve of cars like Skylines and Saleens :evillol:.

The thing I don't understand about this kit is why the brakes are so detailed yet they didn't drill those holes in the body themselves and you have to do it. All F40s do have them holes don't they?

86_SR5
11-07-2003, 07:31 PM

that can easily be explained by the fact that the brakes belong to autograph's superdetailing transkit (http://www.scaleautoworks.com/f40transkitphotos.htm) where the body is just from pocher's base f40 kit.

yes, every f40 has those slots.

The shock bodies need to be painted red and then I need to apply the Koni sticker and they're finished.

All the parts:
http://speed.supercars.net/boardpics/2003-10-12/1684302-SupercarFreaka.jpg
First, the spring had to be shortened and the ends were flattened.
http://speed.supercars.net/boardpics/2003-10-12/1684302-SupercarFreakb.jpg
Next, the top shock body needed to be filed and sanded to accept the photoetch discs and then drilled to accept the watchband pin.

http://speed.supercars.net/boardpics/2003-10-12/1684304-SupercarFreaka.jpg
Then the lower shock body was drilled and that's a wrap.
