definitely red. black was my 2nd choice because its so menacing but it would hide the details, the many hundreds of hours i will have spent Crafting the body. not to mention a non-red F40 just looks weird.

that candy red S7 would be the color for this baby. I'd love to own that thing, as well as an F40.

I like the CF idea, but it would be unrealistic and im going for realism. wheel color as in the same color as the stock rims, like aluminum?

cool. yeah I love your C/F idea, thinking of doing it even though it would be unrealistic. i could just say my owner got the F40 LM wing option :)
i would put on the c/f decals and a few layers of clear and polish the crap out of it

again, this is so the kevlar/carbon fiber decals will sit properly

It's a classic shape and if you put some things that are in today they may end up looking plain silly after ten years or so... If it was my model I'd built it stock street version with the aluminum 3 piece center lock wheels, but well, it isn't my model ;)

It's a classic shape and if you put some things that are in today they may end up looking plain silly after ten years or so... If it was my model I'd built it stock street version with the aluminum 3 piece center lock wheels, but well, it isn't my model ;)

I agree that carbon fibre shouldn't be put in unrealistic places but carbon fibre DID exist when the F40 was made and I think some stuff in the F40 is made of carbon fibre.

yeah, it is. you can tell by looking at the paint at an angle. just like the f50 and enzo.

Of course I do understand the F40 has a lot of carbon- and kevlar composites, but what I meant was that they are not left visible like for example bonnets and wings of japanese tuner cars.

ah, forgot to mention, the body will be airbrushed, no more tamiya spray cans for me, they require way too much polishing.

body was sanded, primed with tamiya metal prime which sucks majorly by the way because it is clear, then primed with tamiya white primer

Nice to see things are coming along Supercar!

Just to clear up a few things you guys have been asking about the F40.

Yes most of the car was built in Carbon Fibre and Kevlar, a Carbon Fibre tub over steel frame, not a stressed monocoque like the F50. Most of the body panels are made of Kevlar, hence the poor body fit on a real F40!
This can be replicated using 1/12 scale kevlar decal on the inside of most panels, like the doors/boot/bonnet etc. On the outside F40s have a weave type finish visible through the paint, it isn't silky smooth like most Ferraris!
The whole of the inside tub is lined with carbon fibre, this can again be replicated using carbon fibre decal.

A long job, but on a model with this much detail a must!
The spare wheel cover in the front (Though F40s never had spare wheels, only a can of tyre inflator!) is also carbon.

Real F40s have a hole on the front nose cone. What it is there for I do not know, probably to adjust something! Pocher were right to model it there! see pic below:

by Mark Hughes. I have a copy and would serioulsy recommend it to anyone wanting to build a good F40 model.

i have many F40 pictures on my computer, when I noticed the hole in the front bumper on the actual model, i thought it was a casting error because i never noticed it on the real car. I went through my reference pics and noticed that some F40s have a hole in the front bumper and some dont, so I filled it in with putty

the engine lid? no, it still needs some putty, filing and sanding

so, since it would be easier to keep the hole in the bumper instead of creating a hole in the mesh, how do i remove putty? anyone?

Toothpaste is a mild abrasive in paste form and can be used like polishing compound.

Plus it smells nice ;)

No. The motor itself! I don't recall seeing anything but the transmission.

i briefly started on the engine, just assembled the main block and glued it together, once again used too much putty as a filler and got discouraged lol

You can get really shiny results with Tamiya acrylic paints when you paint the last wet coats with very highly thinned mix of paint/thinner. I've painted many kits with these paints and the results have been good. But there is a big downside: the paint takes ages to dry. I'm not sure if it ever gets hard, it seems to say somewhat elastic even after months of drying. That means you must be careful when handling the model, because you can leave fingerprints and such on the surface very easily and then you'll have to polish them off. That's why I prefer painting bodies with automotive or tamiya TS paints.
