Will you be at Goodwood Gavin? (in march at themebers club or at the Festival of Speed?)

I found this picture on flickr and I was wondering if this is a brown, black or possibly another color of F1. The chocolate color on the interior is unique to me and I do not recall seeing an F1 in this colour. :) I do not want to jump to conclusions as to whether it is "Creighton Brown" or not.

I understand TT9 is ok, and the car had a 'moment' but it wasn't too bad as it came on to the M25 from a slip road after a 'Cars and Curry' night. I wasn't told about the wing damage, hope it's not too bad

There was a report on Instagram not long after, without any picture. I was tagged as was Pani but it has since been removed. Not sure if that was by request but the car was seen being transported away on a recovery truck so I doubt it survived unscathed. :(

Some of the paint on the rear bumper already wasn't original to the car as it was damaged in transport after Cliff Meltzer sold the car. So I guess it's not the greatest tragedy that it might need some more, but unfortunate nonetheless.

Did #069 come delivered with black wheels?

If it didn't the first job for me would be taking them back to the standard alloy colour.

Peloton25
04-30-2016, 08:31 AM
No, it wasn't even delivered originally with black paint on the body. Black wheels are a new addition within the past decade, after the High Downforce Kit was removed, which also was not original to the car.

according to the McLaren F1 history chart, chassis 069 was the 60th road car built. It was the second of 6 built in 1998 (the final year of production). And was originally delivered in Mercedes Brilliant Silver.

It is interesting looking at the chart, McLaren's formula 1 team didn't start it's partnership with Mercedes until 1995. Up to that point all the silver cars were magnesium silver (and some other darker silvers). No mention of Mercedes in any of the colors. Starting in 1996 Mercedes Brilliant Silver was added to the color pallet, and was used several times after it's first use on chassis number 049. I wonder how BMW felt about the use of Mercedes colors, blatantly called out Mercedes colors, on a BMW powered car...

The first indication I witnessed of #005's transportation from Brunei was from the Instagram user "lamalastair". He posted a shot of #005 at an airport in China:

https://www.instagram.com/p/-eXSeTrwxt/?taken-by=lamalastair

I recently saw a good-quality shot on flickr of the car with the "early xj220-style" mirrors on the public road with the registration "L664 MEP" and figured it was probably 005 being used on the road which was pretty cool :)

The car is in Bolesworth Cheshire for the 2016 Carfest North festival for the public to see and hopefully get some exposure to the public and perhaps professional photographers. I do like the look of the black rims, which makes it look like a #069 twin, but the silver rims look equally elegant in my opinion. :) I've heard rumors that Chris Evans could possibly be the owner of the car due to his connection with Carfest and #005's surroundings.

Is anyone planning to go to Carfest?

Additionally, there was some interesting pictures to show you guys of George Harrison's #025. A car that's rarely seen by the public. The pictures come from "Alastair Ladd Photography" which show #025 at Silverstone in 1996. Facebook is ranked #3 on Alexa's top 500 sites and I figure it's probably a good search engine to find cool Mclaren content opinion

I won't say too much as myself and Erik promised the guy most closely involved in this back in late October / early November that we wouldn't divulge information as requested out of courtesy, but I'm pleased the new owner has it out and about for others to finally see it

It's the same for rear lights:

After 35 years building cars here in the uk it was generally accepted that the indicators were as near to the outside as practical but I also am sure nothing was ever put in stone to that effect as there is also a school of thought that the side lights or marker lights should be at the extremities. It's probably one of those things that is down to interpretation.
can anyone quote the regulations on this?
Just noted my Mercedes has the side lights inboard and indicators outboard.
My Lotus esprit had the indicators outboard and my jaguars all had the indicators outboard.

I found this on UK regulations for road vehicles lighting:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/contents/made

SCHEDULE 2
PART I
Requirements relating to obligatory front position lamps and to optional front position lamps to the extent specified in part II

Position of the front position lamps:
(i)Where two front position lamps are required to be fitted–
_(A)Maximum distance from the side of the vehicle–
__(1)A motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986: 400 mm
__(2)A trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985: 150 mm
__(3)Any other vehicle manufactured on or after 1st October 1985: 400 mm
__(4)A motor vehicle first used before 1st April 1986 and any other vehicle manufactured before 1st October 1985: 510 mm

_(B)Minimum separation distance between front position lamps: No requirement

SCHEDULE 7
PART I
Requirements relating to obligatory direction indicators and to optional direction indicators to the extent specified in part II

Position of the front direction indicators:
(i)Maximum distance from the side of the vehicle–
_(A)Any vehicle not covered by sub-paragraph (B): 400 mm

(ii)Minimum separation distance between indicators on opposite sides of a vehicle–
_(A)A motor vehicle (other than a solo motor bicycle or a motor bicycle combination or an invalid carriage having a maximum speed not exceeding 8 mph) first used on or after 1st April 1986, a trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985, a horse-drawn vehicle, a pedstrian-controlled vehicle and a vehicle drawn or propelled by hand: 500 mm or, if the overall width of the vehicle is less than 1400 mm, 400 mm

So I guess both ways of fitting the front lights are legal.

I had no doubts they were both legal just unclear on what is preferred or customary practice as there are arguments in favour of both points of view however from what I can see most vehicles seem to favour indicators on the outside, at least in the UK.
As I said possibly other countries are different.
Anyway seems we got way off track for this thread and I apologise.
