Angry Still no 1/24 injection molded Porsche 997 kits?

What gives Revell/Aoshima/Tamiya/Fujimi? Why haven't you guys graced us with a decent, good priced, full kit? I'd settle for even just a good curbside kit. I know there are a few random transkits, most of which are way off by what I've read.

This is bollocks. The car has been in production for over 5 years now, and it's a massive hit. Why has nobody produced it in plastic kit form? Am I just not looking under the correct rocks?

Fujimi is supposedly doing this, prototype seen at recent hobby show:

In case hotlink stops working: http://www.hobby-show.info/tokyo2010/0417.html

I would suspect they may do more...but the 997 is going to be replaced soon.

Welly has a pretty decent GT3 RS...curbside/diecast, but it's really nice. I lowered it after this photo:

That's a very nice looking model. I hope decal manufactures make aftermarket decals for this one or fujimi does it, because they sponsor a GT3 I heard.

Just a selection over the years.
ok so we did get the Aston DBS but don't think for one second it was because they saw people wanted one as I imagine it had more to do with James Bond than anything.

Here's a thought, perhaps Tamiya looked at the sale of their 996 cars and decided that the numbers didn't support the tooling of a 997?
In anycase, posts like this are a waste of time.
It isn't like there is a lacking of other kits you can build, unless of course you are saying that there is no other kit/car you want to build right now.

Right, and they produce a kit of the underwhelming CR-Z within months of the car's public introduction (Though I'm guessing they sell more Honda kits than Porsche) but a car than encouraged Nissan to up the ante on the GTR gets a cold shoulder? It's rubbish.

With all due respect; It's a rant post. If this site was booming with posts like it was 'back in the day' and the server was on the brink of freezing I would have reserved the enter button for another day. However, it's not.

Anyhow, I was just venting, and this a forum. Think of me as a young Jezza, Bitching and complaining about things that aren't just so. Of course there are plenty of other kits I want to build, stop encouraging me to buy more shit

Re: Still no 1/24 injection molded Porsche 997 kits?

Yes, there are cars I really want to build, and I know that not every car I want to build will be produced by kit manufacturers.

I myself want to build a 997 too!

What really pisses me off though is when we don't get these cars, but instead we get masses of different versions of the same car!!

I know it must be popular in Asia, but there are almost 10 variations of the Nissan GT-R kit when you total up Fujimi, Tamiya and Aoshima.

This is what annoys me because they could, if they wanted, produce different kits, but NOOO, lets just keep on kissing Nissan's arse and making loads of different Skylines, Silvias etc etc.

Rant over.

Great! Pay them the molds and pretend a royalty, I'm sure any of those brands would be happy to produce us a lot of those without tools costs

At least the whole operation wouldn't cost much more than a great real 997 turbo...

I found a second one (black w/orange stripes) from a vendor at Road Atlanta for a very good price (orange one came from Europe). The Welly Lotus Elise was always hard to find, but a couple vendors at the track had them for $10 apiece.

Re: Still no 1/24 injection molded Porsche 997 kits?

I would buy the diecast 1/24 models of the cars which you cannot buy in kit form, but I always tend to find that they are never the correct scale.

They are always massive compared to plastic kits so don't look quite right being displayed together, then again, the welly porsche does look pretty accurate!

Re: Still no 1/24 injection molded Porsche 997 kits?

Making scale model kits today it is a bad business, cause u have to fight with chinese die cast manifacturer.
Welly Porsche is really welldone, wellpainted and has tampo decals. All for more or less 15 euros.Readym build and ready also to be destroyed by happy kid.

A tamiya KIT will cost around 50 euros, the moulding is much more expensive, the client target is enthusiast modeller fanatics as we all are, welly target is 24h fuel station store always open and lovely for Kids.
The sales numbers comparison is unfair.Production numbers too. tamiya can make 50.000 boxes of it,and the HOPE they can sell it worldwide.
Welly is a sub-name of a giant chinese company specialized in producing die cast models (think the real name is Whong),selling millions of toys worldwide, with a starting average price that is less than 1 usd.

The battle is clearly unfair today for plastic static model kits.
Tamiya and others wellknow it, so they risk over subjects surely appreciated by THEIR people, as well as Revell germany always makes subjects used (or racing) in germany, as the last DTM wonderful car kits,or luftwaffe planes.

Ps. Mike, there is any website where we can see pictures of that show?
