Dome Zero RL / Le Mans '79
Hi all,
this is my Dome Zero RL #6, he drove in 24h race of Le Mans 1979. The car did the race not finished, after 5 or 6 hours it had a technical defect - therefore I have it not strongly weathered. ![]() The kit is from Fujimi and had some shortcomings. I changed some things, so I added the orange indicators and the rainlight, built a new blue light on the roof, added a front shield (the transparent part) and towing eye. I had to scratch build the holders for rearview mirror, rebuilt the driver seat, added the round openings for the ignition cut-off (over the fuel caps) and built a ignition cut-off switch in this. Then I rebuilt the rearlights, and added bonnet pins, seat belts and make the frontlight covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I had begun to build a few years ago. I used the first time, clear lacquer Gunze 'Mr. Super Clear'. Initially saw the still very good, but after a while formed cracks. I tried to fill them with paint and sanding down. But it did no good, they kept coming to the fore. Then the kit disappeared for a long time in the box. After a few years I have him then (rather listless) gradually completed. Sorry for my english. Yours look really nice. I am doing the decals on mine now. Is this the curbside version?

Re: Dome Zero RL / Le Mans '79
Do you have any closups of what the kill switches look like? I drilled out the holes but I am not sure what they look like. reference pics on this car are hard to find.

Hi,
thanx for all your comments. Quote:

Detailed photographs or images from the engine bay I have not found. So I decided to build the car with closed hood. I was surprised at the arrangement of the coolers and their covers in the kit, It doesn't make sense for me. I did not want to build and added details something out of fantasy and then eventually detect that it is completely wrong. I then largely based on the photos on the kit box. On the big cover picture, the kill switch can be seen to some extent. I have this built in this way: ![]() Regards, Jens |

Hi Jens
Really nice!! The big blue light on the roof looks funny, but I know, it was the positionlight for the team at night. Rgards Sascha |

You really did a superb job.
Impressive design: I admit I often seen the car but I never paid the deserved attention. Thinking it was a '79 entry and thinking at contemporary Renault and 936s... well the design is amazing.... I must purchase one, but I guess it would be a challenge uh? Start to be rare....

Re: Dome Zero RL / Le Mans '79
Thanx for comments.
Yes, the design is really impressive. When I first saw him, I thought, what an ugly car, that you buy not. I later discovered it again on Ebay, nobody wanted to have - I then took him for a song. I could still not find it beautiful, but very interesting. From the variety of contemporary race cars it was particularly striking - the most others had smooth, round shapes. Also remarkable was the length, here is a comparison with the Porsche 936/77. ![]() ![]() Regards, Jens |

Incredible job. The car looks so ahead of its time for 79'. Really cool looking.
