Tutorial, how to make AN/DF-fittings and braided hoses

A breif explanation on how I make my own fittings and braided hoses with common materials. Hope you guys find it useful.

Niclas

You need some different things like: A scrapped co-axial cord, hexagonal styrene stock, thin solder, some sort of fine gauge wire and then whatever tools and paint you prefer.

Start by drilling a deep hole the same size as the solder.

With a triangular file I make a groove in the hex-rod.

Put the wire inside the scrapped cord so that it bends easily and holds the shape. It also prevents it from getting deformed.

Cut the rod in whatever length you need and enlarge the end that's going to have the cord glued in.

Here I glued in the cord and solder to the hex-rod, I also added a little slice to finish the hardware.

I use Modelmaster's Metalizer as it dries in an instant and I brush it on.

After the metalizer is dry it's time to get that anodized look. For that I use Tamiya acrylics. And this is what it looks like after some 20 minutes work including drying time for the paint.

I've got the same question!

Great thanks for this tutorial! But I wonder how I'd managed not to drill holes in my own fingers if I tried to do the same...
But you've shown the way, now I know that can be done!...

Thanks guys!

The metallic cord is a piece of scrapped co-axial cord from the radio-schack or equivalent place and I only use the braided part of it.

Just scrap the rest or use it for something else you can come up with. It comes in a wide variety of widths, just choose what size fits your needs in that particulare place.
The cam was a Minolta F300 and I must say that I'm very pleased with it. Can go from fully automatic to totaly manual.
BTW, before i drill in such small things I usually make a little dent with a needle before I pick up my drill-bits. In that way it's much easier to get the hole where I want it, preferably not in my fingers...but I tried that too :22yikes:

'til the next time.
Niclas
