i know there are a few of us out there building or planning to build the supra from the fast and the furious. just wanted to share my progress. i cant wait to finish it. this is a shot of the front bumper. its not done. i still have to add a little bit more putty to the front to make it accurate. i will post more pics when i have something new to take pictures of. let me know what you think.

Your progress is good, u have captured the overall shape well although one thing i would say is that the opening is too wide. My progress on the transkit has been v slow due to all the other stuff im doing right now, ive got as far as the hood...

im new to this forum, but been reading messages for a while now and decided to register...im not new to the hobby, but i still consider myself a newbie though. once agian..hi!
Nice front bumper COZMO6476. i was wondering what kind of putty do you use, and what kind of mold do you use to make the front bumper if any was used at all.
Sweet hood flyonthewall...how did you get the holes to look so clean. What drill did you use?

Its all done with the help of a dremel, No11 blade and a little sanding.

How are the Supras coming along? I'm very interested in this subject, as it is my favourite car, by far. (Have a few ideas on improvement, but i'll keep 'em to myself...) Any progress lately? I would love to do one myself some day...

the supra is coming along. lots of puttying and reputtying has been going on over the past weeks. takes time for the putty to cure fully. wish i could get my hands on some plastic stock. no one around me sells any :(. i've almost completed the front bumper and side skirts. the pieces on the tail are coming along. i cut the roof for the targa top but still have to carve out the hood openings like Flyonthewall did. im still awaiting the rims to come from HLJ. i will post some pics when i get home from work. got some sparco seats from studio 27 for the interior. looking for some spare parts from other kits to convert into additional interior details like the guages on the dash and A pillar. lots of work still needed before i even prime the sucker. just be patient.

still not sure how im gonna make the decals. there is silver in them. i cant produce that on my inkjet. i have white decal paper but it is really really thick. will not look good. may have to mask and paint white onto the body and then use the clear decal instead. we will see... not even close to that stage yet. be patient.

i have the decal ready to print. what im worried about is what kind of decal paper to use on my inkjet printer. i have clear and white decal sheets. i can print some of it on a white decal paper so the colors look better. or i can mask the body and paint it white where the decal will go and use the clear decal paper. i dont want to use the white decal paper because it is very thick and will not follow the contours of the car as well as the clear. we will see. i'm going to play around with the decals before i start laying them down on the actual model

Consider printing it on a laser printer / copier. It will look much better (i've done some research :)) and be more stable. Take your design to a copy shop (they might be even able to print it out through the copier directly from the disk. *Maybe* there are some color laser copiers around that print in white. If any of you know about them, PLEASE DO TELL!

Alex (wishes good luck and wants to hear more about decals - like what paper have you got and where you got it)

i will look into finding printing services around me. it would be great if they could print white on my clear decal sheet. FYI, i bought the decal paper from baremetalfoil.com.

If I had to make decals that incorporate sliver/chrome sections, I can't think of any way to do it other than make a bottom layer decal, make a silver layer out of BMF, and make a top layer for the rest of the detail. I know it may be getting a bit thick at this poing, but that's not entirely unrealistic...

AFAIK, only ALPS printers can print with white ink. I don't know much about them, but that's a name you can search for...

Damn man, you're GO(O)D! Was a bit sceptical at first, but soon it will look like the real deal... Keep up the good work!!!
If you want to nail the original, you might want to extend the hood (bonnet) a little, and make the front spoiler a little shorter on top. The front of the bonnet should come down about halfways of the headlights... Understand what i mean?? Just something i saw looking at the pictures of the real car.

Btw, are you gonna use the GT wing from HLJ or what? That's the closest thing i have seen atleast.

What kind of putty did you use to make the body kits?? Is that Epoxy putty or something? And is it easy to work with and cures fast? Does it kill plastic?

It's coming out REALLY nice! I see you fixed up the mouth and made it smaller, good move! I hope to see the finished product....soon!;)

COZMO6476

hey all,
thanks for your support. the putty is a combination of things. mainly because i ran out of stuff but also because im new at this and am learning as i go. this is the first time i ever used putty. anyways, i started out with epoxy putty from tamiya (the faster curing kind...green box) when that was used up. i decided to use the regular putty from tamiya. I should have just bought some more epoxy putty. too late for that now, so i will have to finish with the regular putty since i dont think its a good idea to put epoxy putty on top of the regular putty. but in general, i basically put the putty on thick and carved away the excess (many times i got carried away and carved too much. had to put more putty to fix my overanxiousness... you live and learn). if you guys want to try stuff out, i suggest using the epoxy putty. dont bother with the regular putty for this. it will take years and it wasnt designed for scratchbuilding. the regular putty is more like a contouring putty. oh yeah... i also cut out big chunks of the original bumper to make things easier.

BTW, i do have a set of the GT wings from HLJ... that is probably the easiest part of this kit conversion.

Shame about the bonnet! About the paint job!

About the paint color; I have read in the past that the car is Lamborghini orange, but on this (http://www.moviecarz.com/featurecar.asp) site i read that it is Mazda RX7 Competition Candy Pearl Yellow. All the confusement!!!

07-05-2002, 05:56 AM
For the hood i made first i scored into the plastic with a knife to mark out the area to be removed. Then drilled holes at each corner of these areas then cut between them (carefully:D ) to remove. Once the main pieces of plastic are gone then I carved and filed away at the edges with a fresh blade and needle files right upto the original score lines. Hope this is of some use and not too late!

when cutting plastic get yourself a candle and warm the knife up on it. Will speed up the process. Make sure you don't melt the knife (Tamiya knives are not good for this way of work).

Its coming along between other projects, i'm pleased with it so far and confident that its in proportion. Its taking time coz i also need to think about how it will be molded and ease of fitting it for those that buy it. A real tricky part is actually going to be the rear spats, they will be easy to make but hard to convert into seperate pieces as part of the transkit.

Ive also had the proper Lambo Orange paint kindly mixed for me and it looks superb and hopefully will be able to get mixed in sufficient quantities to sell with the transkit. Ive recently found an etching company who have great prices so they will be able to do the parts for the APR wing stays and side plates and also some of the bits for the NOS bottles and stands.

There's going to be alot of stuff involved, i will need to make the proper sparco seats - not the shitty movie ones, decals, an intercooler, additional engine parts and gauges for the dash. Its going to take time but will be worth it.

s_18
07-05-2002, 10:23 AM
Hmm, i actually didn't know you were selling transkits! I'm not good at the modeling stuff, and have ruined a whole lot more than I have built. Out of 10-15 i have finished 4, and only 2 with acceptable results (not to you pros, but...)

How much do you take for a transkit then? I was thinking of building a mix between the F&F Supra, and the Veilside C1 kit. I think the Veilside looks really good, with the area around the wheels painted black. That car in lambo orange, with some decals and proper interior. I think it would look real good! Judge for your selves! (see my Sig!)

i finished the replacemtent hood. heres some pics of it. i have to go at it a bit more with the needle files but wanted to show you its current state. the hood is a different color because it was taken from a model painted silver. i was thinking about also thinning the hood where the hood is since in that scale the hood looks like its an inch thick. tell me what you think. your comments/ suggestions are always appreciated

BTW, Flyonthewall, i used your technique on the first hood, the one that broke. for the second hood i used the pin vise to make holes along the perimeter of the holes and then followed with the hobby knife. took longer but i wanted to be extra careful.

Hi all,

Glad to see that you're all still interested in my supra. I've been busy the past few weeks and to be honest i dont want to rush the supra. im taking my time between coats of primer. im sanding after every coat. Here are some updated pics. the body is still undergoing priming since it needed extra attention due to the detail. i painted the rest of the parts orange simply because i was anxious to see what the color would look like. It's a bit more orange than i would like but i'm probably going to keep it. As always, your comments and critiques are very welcome.

i already have a set of Sparco seats from studio 27 to put in the supra once im at that stage. Im going to try to make it as accurate as i possibly can. I have tons of pictures from the internet to use as a reference. unfortuneately, i only have a handful of interior shots. evenso, i think (in a nutshell) the interior will need a roll cage, sparco seats, a huge tac in the center, a couple pods on the a-pillar, a sparco racing harness, and a sparco steering wheel. the only thing im not sure how to do yet is the steering wheel. i dont really want to make it from scratch since it will probably look like crap so we may have to settle for the stock steering wheel. Oh and the steering wheel will be on the left hand side like the original.

im really not sure how much it is extended. i'd gauge at least 2.0 mm. there isnt much of the original front end left under all that putty. i cut most of it out and used part of the bottom lip as the backbone. some areas are extended more than others too. the front of the car is more squarish when looking from the top meaning that the areas beneath the headlights are extended forward a bit more. hope that's somewhat helpful. its hard for me to explain since its gone through so many layers of putty that i just cant remember what it looked like before i started
