the Model kit as well as the epoxy putty i use was purchased at my local hobby store. the company that makes it all is Tamiya. the body is from the stock tamiya Supra model kit. it comes with the engine. the engine looks nothing like the one in the F&F supra but i really dont have the mechanical knowledge to recreate that so mine's gonna be a stock engine. i got the seats from Studio 27 from a website i cant recall. to get the look i wanted, i just applied the putty, let it dry, and carved it into shape with modeling knives and needle files. It takes a LONG time to get it to look right trust me. ive been working on this for months. but i think it will be worth it all in the end. PM me if you have further questions. id be happy to try to help.

BTW, there are other techniques out there that other modelers use to make the body kits. Flyonthewall suggests using plastic styrene stock to shape the kit while filling in the rest with putty.( he could explain it better im sure). i had already started my supra before i read that so this model was not made like that... maybe the next one (if i ever finish this one..jk)

your model looks soooo awesome! I can't stare at it enough. What tools do you use to get all that detail when you're filing, sanding, putting, whatever? I'm building a simple body kit on an s2000, and it doesn't look nearly as nice as yours...thanks!

Here's the latest update... ive been working forever trying to put these bigger 5 spoke on there... i know they arent the same as the ones on the real car but i've been having the darndest time locating rims. ive ordered a bunch of rims from HLJ and the other Hobby search place but none of them come close. I've all but given up on searching. so i have settled for these wheels which are 18" 5 spokers. Its taken so long because the wheels are fujimi and attach to the model differently. they have a hole instead of a peg. so i've been working to retrofit these rims along with the brembo brakes that came with the wheels. this is the first time i've attempted to do such a task. not sure if i'd want to do it again since it was such a pain in my arse. hope you like it... in the mean time, ill be putting the engine and interior together.

Hey Coz, i found the rims that you need....Hoppin Hydros Belajjio's.
Here's the real 19 inch tires.

Here's the pic of the 20's.
http://www2.gpmd.com/image/h/hops0523.jpg
Looks alot better than the ones you have. They still have the hole on the back, so you'll still have to retro fit it on there. If you want them you can order them here Hoppin' Hydros Slim 20's Belajjio's (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=hops0523&FVPROFIL=W+&search=Go) or check the local hobby store in your area. Hope this helps a little. BTW, nice so far, orange doesn't look right though.

Thanks for the link to the wheels. I can just pop those on since i've already retrofit the fujimi's. I'll order them soon. as for the orange color, the pictures were not taken in daylight so the artificial light kinda throws things off. i will try to take the next set of pics with the new rims in sunlight so you guys will see its true shade. i dont know if it will be any better but who knows. i hope so.

That is a tight ride you're making, and it looks great from what I've seen. How are you coming along with the interior and the engine? It has been a couple weeks since your post of 'in the meantime...working on interior and engine' something like that.

Again, simply amazing!

Just wondering how many people are on this FF Supra conversion. I'm one of them, and I usually start from the hardest part of a conversion work. In case of FF Supra, it's the wheel.
Here, partially made wheel is fitted to an already built Supra.

COZMO6476

I'd also like to know you've made those rims, Hiroaki. i doubt i have the tools to scratchbuild custom rims but i'm still interested in how they can be made.

If I had a milling machine with a rotating table, I would have drilled holes of various sizes on a convex disk to make a precise spoke.

However, I don't have a milling machine, so I take a low tech approach. I created a drawing on CAD, using a picture of the wheel as a guide, then I directly printed the image on a very thin plastic sheet with the ALPS printer. I cut out the image, and stuck three of them to add thickness. I still have to add the outer layer with the engraved pattern and rivets, but that shouldn't be so hard. The rims are from one of those Fujimi 18in wheel, and the master will be cast with resin or low temp metal. (or melt one of those metal figure just for fun :) )

COZMO6476
09-10-2002, 12:56 AM
hmmm. thats quite clever. i wish i had an alps printer. that would solve my decal dilema as well. i think im going to settle for aftermarket wheels rather than attempt scratchbuilt ones for this model at least since i'm kinda anxious to finish it. but you've done a great job making those wheels. in fact, i admire all of your work. your website has honestly been a huge inspiration to me. thanks Hiroaki

One of the longest thread is back!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/368801rhwheel.jpg
Please don't ask me where the Supra is. :)
There are many more things to do just for the wheel itself.
1) Sharpen the engraving and finalize the size of the center indentation
2) Fillet the very edge of the spoke
3) Sand the area to make the fillet smoother
4) Fill the side with putty, and finalize the shape of each spoke (that's why they are somewhat wider)

Plus, depth of the rim doesn't look deep enough, so I'll remove the spokes, which is temporarily glued, and reshape it.
Then, add 6 x 5 = 30 rivets, and the hub cap.

That really looks superb! Haven't even tackled the wheels for mine yet.

dont know if this will satisfy anyone's anxiousness to see this model completed but here are some updated pictures of the supra model as of today. i stripped the previous paint because i wasnt happy with the shade of orange it had. with the paint off i took the opportunity to refine the front bumper a bit. not sure if you can tell the difference but it is better in my opinion. Plus, i think the paint is pretty close to the original now. questions, comments, and suggestions are always welcome... fyi, i noticed that there is some compound still in some of the groves... ill take care of that when im done polishing. there is also a print out of the decal i plan on using on the body in one of the pictures. your comments on that are also welcome.

thanks
