I see that you are using hangers to hold it, and I always see people using them for spraying. Are they taped to the hanger or what?

plain old tape is what i use to mount the body on hangers. for the smaller pieces, i use foamy double stick tape. its made by 3M. I stick the tape on the hanger and then i stick the part onto the other sticky side. works pretty good for me

I live in Calgary, Alberta. Thats in Canada for all of you that don't know! I was wondering if Tamiya makes a Mitsuibishi Eclipse, if so, where can it be found. I've tried all the major online hobby stores and none seem to carry it.

as of now an eclipse model kit does not exist. However, Revell is supposedly going to release an eclipse kit some time this year along with a civic coupe and civic hatch. there are no eclipses from tamiya.

If you really want an eclipse you can get the die cast model instead but its already built... not a plastic model kit

few things...

i think ur sooooooo talented and omd i cant get over how beautifully u crafted the bomex bumper and the veilside skirts. they look exactly like the real thing. great job

secondly, idunno if its ur digicam or w.e but that paint u used looks really red..im sure its prolly ur camera but if its not. i think uve ruined ur model.u could have at least gotten the paint code for the supra..its lamborghini diablo orange. ive seen quite a few peeps that paint their cars this color, and i would think if ur soo meticulous in constructing the kit, that you would know to use authentic paint. w/e its prolly just ur camera, but thos pix look like the car is very very ver reddish. it would almost be better jst painting it a different color all together. my friend has a stillen kit on his supra and hes got the same color as that veilside supra. its pretty pimp ass. i think that would look awsome on ur model because the bomex and stillen kits are very similar. neways..if ur model doesnt look as red in real life as it does in these pix, keep on doin what ur doin, but if it does, eh....it doesnt do this pimp ass model justice..

hey guys now that i have the pics my interior is gonna be coming along nicely! :D When I make some more progress on the front bumper ill have some pics for you but like cozmos said 'It takes time'. Good luck on ur coz! Oh yeah i couldn't find lambo orange but i found a color thats like 1 shade darker (its real hard to tell the difference). Its made by testors called 'competition orange'. Cuz i noticed u were making urs.

COZMO6476
07-29-2002, 03:00 PM
i just mixed a bunch of Testors yellow paint with a couple drops of red testors paint and voila... "lamborgini orange yellow whatever it was"... or something close enough

(oh yeah, i started on the interior today, its comin out great; pretty easy too!)

On www.1999.co.jp (you can change it to engish, top right) there is a GT wing under Aoshima... I am gettin it for my celica.

COZMO6476
07-29-2002, 05:13 PM
yep, the wing is from the Gt kit that Hash_man was talking about, but you dont have to order from japan if you dont want to. you can get them shipped from the states. Go to Tiny Imports (http://www.tinyimports.com) . they are good people there and their prices are very competitive. they are based in california. You can get wheels from them too. check em out... your other option is to use some sheets of styrene and make the wing from scratch.

EnotsMoclov02
07-29-2002, 07:21 PM
i also have another question. How do you intend on lowering it! (All of the questions are because this is the first car im customizing)

if you could get back to me asap it would be nice. I wonder if that tiny import place in in so cal anywhere near me! Hopefully!

EnotsMoclov02
07-29-2002, 07:28 PM
also were did u get the rims?? If you have even gotten them.

Are u working on an f&f conversion aswell?

COZMO6476
07-30-2002, 01:35 AM
TINYIMPORTS is in orange county i think... and as for the rims, there arent really many options. i have a set of 18 inch 5 spoked wheels that i think im gonna use. the originals are 19 inch racing hart M5's i think. there is no such thing in the 1/24 scale modeling world. so our options are to either buy something close enough and call it a day or build them from scratch. scratch building a set of wheels is a bit beyond my skill level and also it is beyond what i have in my tool box. so it looks like im using generic 5 spokes.:p

COZMO6476, I know ya used putty to do your front spoiler on your supra, but what I'm wondering is,is how ya actually did it.The putty comes in like a "squirtable" form right? So, shouldn't there be something under the putty that you can work off of? (something to stick the putty to and then sand and shape....) Any hints to how ya did this would be much appreciated cause I'm going to try this with one of my kits. Thanks!

COZMO6476
07-30-2002, 10:30 AM
Killrs_Are_Quiet54,

there are many types of putty out there. different types have different properties and are better for certain projects. the putty i used is epoxy putty. it comes in two parts. you mix equal portions of each part together and shape it like clay. (its actually a bit more sticky than clay so you must work with wet fingers so it doesnt stick to your skin) It hardens overnight and you can sand it down or sculpt it with an xacto knife or needle files. it is very different from the putty that you are describing. the putty in a tube is usally for smoothing out a seam between two parts and not for sculpting. Your local hobby shop should carry epoxy putty. the brand i use is Tamiya. Hope thats helpful.

EnotsMoclov02
07-30-2002, 05:05 PM
good tips on the putty cozmo. I think im gonna have to start all over on my front bumper (i madde it outta the wrong stuff). I knew it awhile ago i just kept tellin myself that it would work out. Oh well. At least i didnt do any major sculpting.

Also i really need some tips on lowering the car! My producion has completely ceased until i find that out or til i get some of the epoxy stuff. But other wise the back end is comin along nicely on mine the little fins are soooooo close to just falling off so i put on a layer or liquid glue over it. But i really need to know how to lower it asap, im really anxious to finish the chassis, im just in paint stage right now.

COZMO6476
07-30-2002, 05:41 PM
there are a few ways to go about it. but basically, what i would do is look at how the suspension fits on the car now. put the car together without glue. it should hold together well enough for you to get a basic idea of what it looks like. use that as a guage to see how much you want to drop it and look for the contact points between the parts. these are the areas that you will need to shave excess plastic to lower the suspension. you can also carefully bend the pieces upward after heating them up with a hair dryer. but its really not as complicated as it sounds. just take your time.

Im using wheels that didnt come with the kit and unfortunately dont fit on the car without significant modification. i will post pics of my work so far when i get a chance but, im a ways off from finishing the chassis.

EnotsMoclov02
07-31-2002, 01:22 AM
Thanx for the tips, thats what i was thinking about doin anyways but i just wanted to see if there was some other way.

BTW im not gonna be around for a while so i wont be posting for a little

Cozmo, when you first applied the putty to the body and left it to dry, in what shape did ya leave it? Like did did ya somewhat shape the stuff into a ruff form of a spoiler? I'm confused? Although, If it wasn't for you I don't think I'd even attempt to make a body kit for my model if you hadn't told me about the epoxy putty. I'm going to try it on my acura. Start small ya know. Thanks man!

COZMO6476
08-02-2002, 01:55 PM
hey Killr,

i always put more epoxy putty than i need and let it dry. then i shave it down to the right shape. more is better than less since you can always easily shave off epoxy but if you dont have enough you'll have to wait a whole other day for the next application of epoxy to dry and shave all over again (its happened a couple times to me). dont put too much or you'll be sculpting forever. there is also a polyester putty out there too. i've never used it but i hear it cures quicker. hope that helps.

BTW to everyone, Im going on vacation for 2 & 1/2 weeks so you wont see any responses from me for a while. take care. ill be going to the philippines. im going to see if i can grab a couple kits from there. i think tamiya has a couple factories in the philippines. One of the ferrari's i bought from tamiya said "made in the philippines" on it. we will see. Cheers everyone

Killrs_Are_Quiet54
08-02-2002, 06:27 PM
About how long does it take the putty to get to the point where you can't form it any more and have to let it dry completely?

COZMO6476
08-02-2002, 08:46 PM
the tamiya putty i use takes a while. dont know exactly but i never ran into a problem of it curing before i wanted it to.

hi cosmo greetings from the philippines! just some tips on where to get kits. here's a list of places to check out when you get here:

*Lil's hobby shop in SM MegaMall and Makati Park Square 2
*Special Toys Center in Greenhills Virra Mall, Alabang Festival Mall and SM North Edsa
*Hobby shop in Harrison Plaza (sorry forgot the name)
*Hobby shop in Makati Cinema Square (sorry forgot the name again)

That's pretty much where I get most of my kits. If you're looking for mainly tamiya kits then Lil's is the place to go. HTH!

Hey guys im finally back from vacation!!! (unfortunatley coz left when i was gone). But im gonna continue to work on the front spoiler. i think im still gonna see how the putty works out. ill try and get some pics of along the process. keep me updated on the epoxy during the process so i can know; just in case i need to use my plan B. Dont use putty alone its not strong enough. Use styrene to build up the main structure then use putty to fill and shape.

Try either small emery boards or a small modeler's file. they're usually small and strong enough to help you get the shape you want:)

Killrs_Are_Quiet54

Maybe I'm dumb or one of many with the same question, but is asking, what is emery board and where do ya get it? If ya could possibly post a pic or a link to somewhere with a pic it be most help also. Thanks!

Needle files are what you need. A round and half-round types will be enough for most tasks. Try to avoid buying the cheap sets as they are quite coarse.

Styrene is what most model kits are made of.
It is plastic useally white. It can be bought at hobby stores, it comes in sheets (flat) and round solid tube sizes. I believe you can get squere shapes too.

You can get it at good hobby stores.
Sorry I don't know any good online stores.
