bet you can't find this info on an IS300!!!

Hello all! I just "transferred" to this forum as of late. I was planning on getting one of those Mitsubishi Evo VII's, but I'm pretty sure it ain't coming to the U.S. till late next year(I keep getting confusing info on that car), so this spring I'm getting an IS300. I figured, "Hey, better overall car, rather sacrifice some performance, than looks, interior, and overall quality." So i'm getting the Lex. I can get the thing up to over 400RWHP pretty easy with a turbo anyway, so not much performance loss anyway. But this is my big question! I've been looking through all the mods you can do to the IS300, and when it came to stereo stuff, I can't find any info whatsoever. The oem 8-speaker system must be top secret info or something! I mean, go to any factory stereo fit guide, like Crutchfield.com or anything like that, and they'll have all the other car brands except Lexus info! How the hell are we supposed to know what to replace our factory speakers with if they don't give me the info. If anybody can find me info on the speaker sizes and such, I'd be extremely grateful. I gurantee it's tough to come by on the net! Thanks! Austin

The reason?
The IS300 has one of the best stock stereos on the market, I'd say one of the best I've ever heard. It's better than the one my mother has in her LS400.
It might not be powerfull enough to wake the neighbors or rattle your teeth, but before you "plan" on changing anything, take a good long listen to it... u might be surprised.

So anyway, the speaker layout is like this:
- 2 tweeters, by side mirrors. (I think 1")
- 2 6.5" in front doors
- 2 2-way (they consider it to be "4 speakers") 6x9"

No, that's not what i was saying, I've listened a whole lot to the stock system in my friends IS300, and it's real good for a stock system(probably the best i've heard so far for stock), but nowhere near what I'm used to listening to in the systems I put together. Just having a decent stock system is no reason not to let anyone have some info on it. It's not sooooooooooo good that no one would consider upgrading, no what I mean! I figured about as much as the info you gave me, I figured they rate the 6x9's as four speakers, because I couldn't hear any ther speakers in the car besides those. I was just wondering if there were two more speakers hidden somwhere I didn't know about. Thanks for the info anyway!

Some additional information: Nearly all Lexuses, including those using Nakamichi packages use an external amplifier (i.e. the 2nd generation SC300/400s have an amp behind the rear seat either next to fuel tank or near the spare tire area; can't remember that well). I believe they use RCA cables, so you can simply bypass this amp with a better one if you intend to keep the factory head unit (which tend to be difficult to replace). Aside from deck install, what other information is pertinent? Speakers are always replaceable and wiring can be dug up with paneling removed. Again, the only problem I have with Lexus sound systems are the non DIN factory head units.

That doesn't show the pertinent system information other than there are subs-in-the-box. Pertinent calls for what is done with the head unit or control unit, depending on what you are running (If it's a simple adapter to a DIN/double-DIN, then whatever, that's obviously easy). Is it running the factory deck to the rest of the system? Everything else is extraneous peripheral usage, meaning wiring, and speaker replacements. Even trunk custom enclosures are simple enough.
