Unhappy "Change Oil Soon" light

I changed my own oil, but cannot get the "change oil soon" light to go off. I followed the instructions to turn on the switch and pump the gas 3 time in 5 seconds, but that did not work. Any Ideas?

I have a GTP and the message centre is a bit different, but on mine you just hold the reset down, and it will go back to 100%.

Yep, should be a yellow reset button under the dash.

If a door is open when you pump the gas pedal it will not work.

Sit in the car, Shut the door. Turn ignition on, do not start the car, and pump the gas pedal three times within 5 sec. and wait till the light starts to flash. You might have to do it 2 or 3 times. Give it about 10 sec. between tries. Have done it lots of times. You'll get it.

Make sure you are not pumping your foot as fast as you can! It has to be 3 pumps fully from closed to fully open 3 times don't worry about the 5 second part and if the 3 pumps don't work just keep pumping. I change oil on these cars all the time and I can't do it without pumping at least 15 times.

On my 01, there is a reset button on the dic. All I have to do it hold that button down for 10 seconds, while it is on the "oil" display and it resets.

I am sure this is an old message.....but its probably an o2 sensor or some sensor. I had the problem of my oil light always coming on and going off.

Re: "Change Oil Soon" light

I had this problem too with my 2002 GT . I was told to "floor" the gas pedal slowly 3 times while the engine is OFF and this resets the change oil light.
I tried it and it works !

I am giving you a warning. In the future, please do not resurrect message threads that are this old unless there is good cause. The post before yours was almost three years ago. The answer was properly provided in prior posts by others so there was no reason to resurrect it. Thank you for your cooperation.

If a thread has been closed, there is probably a logical reason for it. If you feel that the reason(s) for closure of the original thread are unjustified or wish further clarification feel free to contact any member of the moderating team. However, do not start a new thread about another closed thread.

Please avoid posting or voting in outdated threads. It merely clutters up the message board and makes it more difficult for fellow members to sort through the vast amount of information contained on the boards. If you have new and important information to add regarding a past discussion, feel free to start a new thread.
