yeah but when was the last time u replaced the fluid, if its old then that might be your problem too, not just low but old.

but to check it, on the tranny there should be 2 plugs, one on bottom and one on top, take off the top one and stick your finger in the top whole and curve it down little bit, the fluid should be up to there

If its not the fluid then replace the synchros with the gsr ones. They're dual coned synchros and last longer

99% of the time a grinding 3rd gear in a honda tranny is the first sign of your tranny going. i've gone through 2 trannies and both of them started grinding 3rd first.. bseries trannies are notrious for that. only thing i can say is try using something like redline mtl tranny fluid. that stopped my grinding in 3rd gear on my first tranny completly for about 3-4 months but then my tranny just went out. and i've heard gm synchromesh is pretty good. but honestly your tranny is going out and i dont know if fixing the synchros is even worth it. b16 tranny is getting harder and harder to find now a days though so good. luck. and oh yeah, one more thing, downshifting is a good way to break a tranny. that is a very harsh move for a tranny. your better off geting a good clutch and using that instead of downshifting.
