K&N air filter

I was just wondering if a K&N air filter would be a good choice for my next air filter. I just replaced mine with a normal one, but i've read that K&N filters flow more easily and have a small power gain, but i've also read that they can let in a lot of dirt and dust. Anyone have some feedback? Also, would I notice a slight increase in power? I know it'll sound louder, but just wondering if the slight power increase would be at all noticeable.

If you're talking about just chaning the filter you won't notice any gain, although the K&N probably flows a bit better and cleaner than a stock filter. If you meant changing your entire intake to an aftermarket intake along with a K&N filter than yes, you'll probably notice a slight pickup in power.

Yeah I was talking about the filter, I don't have enough extra cash to get an entire intake system yet. Thanks for the info.

An air filter won't make the car louder. You probably won't have any noticeable gains in power either (though this depends on the car, some react better than others)

its the piping that makes the sound (jus like if u blow across the top of a bottle). the filter itself will help u get MINIMAL gains...but still, it isn't a bad investment at all.

Dont listen to any of these yahoos...

its a easy 8-10hp, I mean thats what they advertise the power gain right?

They wouldnt lie at all... Nope... Lieing is Evil.

So expect a good 8-10hp from the filter.

you may notice a bigger gain if you have a super clogged up filter right now...

As mentioned the gains will be minimal to good depending on the car and more so it's state of tune.

On a smaller N/A engine the gain is small. Very small. On a 5.7 litre V8 it would be more noticable.

On a turbo or super charged car the gains are very good.

Also take into consideration for a moment the complete induction system. While the panel will allow your car to breathe in easier if your restricted at the exhaust side you nullify the gains there. If you have an exorbannanet amount of plumming to the air box and then again to the throttle body that will also restrict air flow.

the only type of filters that really makes sounds is the cone type. the stock air box muffles the induction noise. now if you can ditch the whole air box, and just buy a cone filter adaptor, and just buy a cone filter, you will get that nice intake growl that your lookin for.

Just save up a little bit of money and get a cold air intake! They aren't that expensive. You can find fairly cheap ones. Hit me up a PM and I can probably find you a good price.

Having a K&N open air filter on the 95 and a replacement filter on the 94 I can say without a doubt that the replacement filter doesn't give any perceptable performance increase. It does give me a filter that doesn't have to be replace - basically forever (just has to be cleaned one and awhile). The open air filter did give perceptable performance gains.

You won't notice a gain for your car. Th eonly benefit would be the fact that you would neve have to buy another air filter. You will gain perhaps 5HP at the most.

Ok, thanks for all the info.

Also are cold air intakes useful all year round? or do they have to be disabled or something in the winter? Considering it can get pretty cold here.

LOL!!!

No, they don't. They call them cold air intakes because the get air from the fender instead of the engine bay, or from directly outside.
