K&N AIR FILTER vs. STOCK PAPER FILTER

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3800 Series II v6. I currently have a K&N air filter in the car, i hear speculation about these filters, that they are a waste of money and dont really dont do nothing. Anyone actually think that they make a difference in acceleration more than a nice new clean AC paper filter?? What is your opinion on these filters?

Re: K&N AIR FILTER vs. STOCK PAPER FILTER

yeah Gary, I'd stick with a stock one unless your heavily modified.

Up at school, we dynoed a buick centry 3300 (If I remember right) both ways with the stock paper filter, then with a K&N drop in filter. The K&N didnt make any difference.

Re: K&N AIR FILTER vs. STOCK PAPER FILTER

I don't have any data to back this up, but I dropped in the K&N at the same time I deleted the U-bend and Resonator. Subtle but noticeable improvement in throttle response (faster revs), but having never dyno'd or tracked I don't have any idea if it is quicker.

Best benefit of the K&N is that the service shop never tries to sell my wife a $30 paper filter when she get's the LOF.

Re: K&N AIR FILTER vs. STOCK PAPER FILTER

Some car enthusiasts have gone to great lengths through the years to run their own comparison tests of AC Delco paper versus K&N drop-in and other brands. Technically it is annecdotal info and could be taken with a grain of salt but regardless should be looked at in the K&N versus others debate. Here is a surprising one done on a Cadillac STS with a Race Technology AP-22 accelerometer.

Why Rich? Afraid of the K&N rep weighing-in defending his products.

Re: K&N AIR FILTER vs. STOCK PAPER FILTER

I've had a K&N for about a year now. I've seen no gains in MPG or performance "feel". That webpage with the dyno specs in really interesting Bob. Confirms what I have always thought.
