Something different

Hi guys, i'm new here in the Nissan area, i've been running a 91 honda accord w/mods for about a year and i'm really gettin tired of passing guys with cars exaclty like mine every ten minutes. In fact, i'm really gettin tired of hondas in general. Their like fuckin rabbits or somethin. Anyhow i've been wanting a car that's rare to see around my area and i really like the newer 240's. I got my eye on a 96 SE with 100,000 on the clock but the car is CLEAN. I've been readin the forums and i can't seem to find an answer to one of my questions. Do i really need to rebuild the internals of my motor if i only want to boost to like, 250, 270ish? I got the money to turbo the car if i get it, but i don't have the time to tear down the engine cause i'm so busy. Will i be all right? I'd only be driving the car this way until about January when i get layed off from work and have some free time. Also what's a good turbo exhaust for the 240? Thanx guys.

here's my recommendation...

if you don't plan to build the motor, but want it driveable, don't boost it as much as you want to to get 250-270.

boost it what is recommended for the kit on an unbuilt motor.

you'll save yourself headaches that way.

or, save up and get an sr20det and swap it in january...

but a built factory motor turbo'd isn't a bad idea either, since sr20det'd 240s are becoming almost ricey when people talk about them, especially in this forum...

exhaust systems vary, go for something that's designed for a turbo, and you'll be good...

what you choose depends more on sound preference and styling once you get to that point...

well go nissan!
first if u got 100,000 miles on da car re build da internals b4 you turbo da ka motor or just replace it with a sr20det.. you cannot boost 250psi
u must mean 250hp@ wheel with the ka-t setup you will have 2 boost about 14psi 2 get 250 hp.. i do say build your internals so the car will be more reailable especally if itz a daily driver..
btw if u want quick e.t's go ka-t
if u wana drift go sr20det

4 a turbo exaust i'd go with sum 3"piping and a apex-i n1 exaust or a hks hiper or sumthing like that !

hope i helped

also, as with any turbo upgrade, DONT LEAVE OUT FUEL MANAGEMENT/UPGRADES, i dont know how many people ive seen blow up their engines because they use boost dependent fuel regulators that are shit, tune it wrong, or use old hoses/lines to hook up wastegates, bov's, etc. just make sure you know what your getting into before you do, and dont forget about fuel

whoever just called SR's ricey - a pox on you! they may be becoming way overexposed and alot of people are buying them even when they don't know what to do with them...but the fact remains that they're a bloody excellent engine, one of Nissan's best. who cares how much exposure they get? nothing will change that fact.

i've seen many sources that shows a stock KA block is running fine at 300hp at the wheels. from what i've talked about with anthony at realnissan, the stock KA can handle around 270hp at the wheels to be realistic. the thing that you got to worry about most is the fuel. the stock fuel system isn't really suppose to go past 7 lbs. which by the way is almost a 50% increase in power. but since its not always that perfect in our world we can say 35 to 40% increase to be conservative. now like what sr20det, if you boost a KA up to 14psi. you will be runnin alot of power. with mods you will be pushing well over 300hp. (at the crank that is) anyways, for my turbo set up that i'll be gettin in 2 weeks, with all my mods, that i got currently. i should be be puttin down almost 250hp at the wheels.

SRs will ONLY become ricey when APC starts making stuff for them, such as their new RE Works line, which is a shameless attempt at JDM.

Thank god everyone has redtops...

S14, S13 Blactkop are still relativley un-common

14psi????? The dyno chart for the kit I want reads 233hp on the ground at 6.5psi. On an otherwise stock motor. I probably should have mentioned that in the first place, sorry. The kit goes for $3999, but it's got the fuel upgrades, chip, everything. So with all the fuel system upgrades and shit, should i be able to run 7 or 8psi safely, or should i just hold off on the turbo all together until the internals are built?
