Is the exhaust manifold protected by the stock skid plate?

No...The only thing the stock skidplate protects is the oil filter. Time to crawl under your truck and look!

The exhaust manifold is up on the side of the engine about as high as the top of your tires...

That is what I thought. (I change my own oil every other time.) The other day I had my exhaust manifold replaced and I got under there to look to see where the new part was and when I did I realized my skid plate was missing. Now I am wondering if the people who replaced my manifold forgot to replace it, or the last place that changed my oil missed it.

So I was wondering if the last oil change place forgetting to put my skid plate on could have had any effect on my manifold cracking.....but I guess not. But I still have to figure out where my damn skid plate is.

I do....every other time. I just take it someplace the other times to get everything greased properly.

Time to start greasing your truck yourself. (Hell I finally got my propeller shaft lubed, way past schedule. )

What needs to be lubed on this rigs? I do my own oil, but ever lub anything.

I'd be willing to bet that you'll find the majority of the 6 bolts that hold it on broken off. And that the oil-change guy will deny doing it.

...But he may have bolted it back on with just two or one bolts...(mine had 3 on it)...And it may have come off (at speed, of course!)...

Do you recall a loud noise, or maybe a scraping, lately???

I found my skid plate. The guy that replaced my exhaust manifold this weekend forgot to put it back on. I am just glad I crawled under there to figure that much out.

How the heck do you grease the propeller shaft and where is it? I"ve done pretty much everything on the scheduled maint. except for that. I can't find anything about it in my Haynes or in the nissan manual.

In case you hadn't noticed this is an Xterra board? But if it is similar to an Xterra, there is a little cap that you pull up and squirt the grease in. Doing a quick search I found this: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ropeller+shaft
