Good, cheap intake?

I know you get what you pay for, but I'm sure theres some not so well known brands out there that you arn't just paying for the brands like AEM or Injen.

I've been looking for a while, but I don't really know where to go. I got rims costing me $750 on the way, so I'm looking to spend about $100 on the intake, any suggestions?

BTW - its a 95 LS

who wants to pay $200 for a freaking intake... look at the AEM specs it says that it does 3 hp for the CAI, thats $67 per horsepower... intake is something that you can save yourself some cash and get a generic one off ebay. i'd get a short ram generic intake off ebay for $30 if i were you...

ripp off the air filter canister housing and just wrap a rag (clean) around the intake.

I have a cold air one from e-bay, it looks diesent. works good, gives a scary sound above 6000rpm and almost sounds like a turbo spooling up above 4000 (wistling) i like the sound

Actually we did that to two of my friends cars, 94 civic ex and a 95 golf gl......... suprisingly they actually felt alot of HP difference and sounded awsome, i would never do this to my car though... to risky.... thats when you know you are a cheap hack hahah

Aight, well I'm not gonna go a sock or rag over my air box, so thats out of the question.

Also, would short ram air be much of a difference from full intake? I'm thinking I'll just get a $30 short ram air off ebay and go with that, unless someone can give me reasons why not.

If i were to do it again i would of went with the short ram. the cold air picks up right next to the wheel and my car is lowered so i really shouldnt even drive it when its wet out or when it is dusty out.... you wont really have to worry about that with the short ram

if you want a short ram i have one for sale... used it on my '00 gsr, has only 12000 miles on it, have no use for it now since the turbo... it's a blue aem intake all you would have to do is either clean the filter or if ya want I can clean it for ya if you want to buy it... drop me an email if you're interested... [email protected]. I'll send it to you shipped for 50 bucks.

a cai will only cause hydrolock if it is completely submerged underwater. this means you'd have to be over a 1.5' puddle (not likely to happen unless you are a complete tard) before it would suck in water, even lowered.

water dropplets will evaporate and cool down the combustion temps (ever heard of water injection systems?)

i doubt an aem cai only gives 3hp, but even if it does, you should compare the before/after dyno graphs. remember peak hp isnt everything. a cai gives great midrange. way over stock. theres an article on the new import tuner. they compared a few of the leading manufacturer's intakes on a rsx...aem cai gave a peak 20hp, 5.4tq gain with improvement all across the powerband. i was very impressed

if you do get a generic ebay intake at least change out the filter.

What if-- and i did this. but it was for like 3 months, cuz i thought it was kinda gay.
on my 93 teg... take off the bottom half of the box on the intake and remove the resonator down by the bumper... .... the same logistics are involved for the ram intake--
If you're looking for th cheap way-- it does give you the bad ass growl, and a power increase... cuz it does suck up a helluva lot more.

you'd think so wouldnt you?

theres a dyno comparison floating on the internet where they tested your *homemade mod* on a ITR. it lost most of its low-midrange and a little top end...but it did make it louder

see quite honestly, im not looking for a fast car. tegs are fast as it is.. i mean sure not 10 second cars. but fast for me... im not much for the top-end.

It was cool for the little while I had it. but AEM CAI is good for me now. replaced a cheap growl with a good growl.

I like my generic cai. when it gets rainy looking i just take off the bottom part of the tubing and make it a short ramn. takes about 10 minutes.

question, are the pipings for the intakes 2"? I want to get a K&N filter instead of the generic filter on it.
