Is a snorkel hood scoop considered a Ram Air system?

Yup. As long as the opening of the hood scoop is facing the front of the car, it's considered Ram Air.

Ram air has a very wide definition. They don't work incredibly well either.

All depends on airflow of the car.
But what do you define as cowl induction? A hood scoop? And what at Ram Air? A front mount?

ram air comes in hood scoops, and in plumbing...
you could plumb a tube from your intake box to the front of your car, like seen on tons of mustangs (fox chassis cars) that "rams" air into that tube to the intake box... cowl induction isn't as useful on newer cars b/c the air is getting pushed up further by the curvy nose, and not being spun back down the windshield to get sucked back up under the hood... the cowl induction hood on my truck did help in decreasing underhood temp slightly though... ram air would be better on a newer vehicle, and it's a toss up when you go back to older cars... if you've got a correct cowl induction setup, the air box would have to be plumbed so that the air that is coming in goes straight to the airbox, somewhat CAI style, just like ram air... |
