fuel cut-off at 3500 on new ZC motor!!! Anyone know why ??
My friend just bought a 94 honda civic cx with a new ZC motor in it. I went with him when he bought it two days ago and the ignition wiring hadn't even been finished so the motor had never been ran in the car. He connected the ignition wires and had the car running in about 10 minutes and it seemed to work fine but when he started to drive it the fuel cut-off was at about 3500 RPM. (it feels exactly like fuel cut-off at least) At first we thought it was the ECU but we hooked up the one out of my 92 gs-r and it did the exact same thing. Obviously some wires are connected wrong somewhere. Anyone have any idea which wires they could be? Could it have something to do with the cam sensor or the throttle positioning sensor? Please reson even if you only have an idea of something that might work. Thanks

well the zc is a d series engien. and the ecu your runnin is a b series ecu. idk if that might be a problem. also are u getting thrown any codes ? cause usually when it does that, there something wrong sensor wise with the motor. they call it limp mode on th ecu cause theres something wrong so the comp goes into limp mode

we've tried a B-series ECU and a D-Series ECU but it didn't make any difference. I'm guessing it's a sensor too but when I looked I couldn't even find that plug where you plug that little tool in. I looked down by the ECU but it wasn't there. Do you have any idea what sensor it could be? I'm thinking cam sensor or throttle positioning sensor.

Which ZC motor did you put in the car? The DOHC model or the SOHC ZC VTEC motor?

the DOHC 130HP non V-Tec.
I called honda today and talked to one of their technicians to see if he would know anything. He said he doesn't think it's the Throttle positioning sensor because it would still let the car rev higher but it would just make it run a lot worse. He said it wouldn't be the cam sensor cause then the car wouldn't run at all. He thinks it might be the timing. I looked at the cam pulleys and one was just a little off. (maybe one degree) I don't think it would cause the fuel cut off to be at 3500 rpm though. Do you guys think it's posible that we wired the ignition wires up wrong. All cylinders are working but maybe it was another wire. Does anyone know a good webpage that might explain this stuff? Anything will help. thanks
