Honda Civic with a Prelude 22 v-tech engine

Hi ppl. I have a honda Civic '94 model 2 doors and I am thinking of installing a prelude '94 22 v-tech engine (H22A1). What do I need? Are there any risks/damages? What else I need to ensure safety and reliability of my vehicle?

Thanks In Advance

George

hmmm you have a Sti RA version IV, and you still want to drop in a big motor into your civic? hmmmm it still wouldn't be as fast. i wish i could tell you the answers, but i'm not too sure, all i know is that you gotta bang out the metal around the engine bay for the engine to fit in. also you gotta say bye bye to your a/c compressor and power steering pump cause they will not fit.

There's a couple of shops here in Phoenix, including my buddy's, that can do an H22 swap in a Civic and keep the AC. It'll be an extremely tight fit, but it's possible.

The least of what you'll need is a set of custom motor mounts.

Another problem other than the tight fit is weight distribution.

if you're putting that motor in a civic, it's about going fast in a straight line...

handling isn't as big a concern...

if you buy a set of amps and subs you can put then in the back for ballast

no doubt it would increase the center of gravity either way you're at a loss

maybe a B16 is better?

yup, i always tell my friends taht, if your goin to put a prelude engine in your civics, you better put some damn weights in the back to balance the car back out.

Yeah that's what I meant by the weight distribution.

If the car was solely for drag racing, then it would be fine. But as an everyday driver, the weight distribution would make the car really difficult to control.

And as those others suggested, adding weight... sure it would help balance, but that would defeat the purpose of putting the 2.2L engine into a light civic chassis. Why not just buy a prelude instead?

So does anybody know the weight difference between a B16 from that of a H22?

I'd like to know how off balance the H22 would make the Car... I have a feeling its not much difference.

Adding more weight to the car is NOT the answer. What you do is upgrade your suspension and lose MORE weight from the front of the car, not add weight to "balance" it out. That completely negates the added power you'll get from the engine.

well what my friend is doin with his crx right now is that he striped the entire car, and then added a sound system in the back to offset the weight overall. i dunno, it seemed like it might work. however yes i realized that it defeats the whole point of putting a bigger motor in a lighter car if your goin to just add more weight to it. oops. but non the less, that year civic still weights around 450lbs lighter then a prelude. so even if you add some weight, it should still be a good amount lighter then a lude.

True. But even IF you managed to fit it in, it'll be very tight and it'll be difficult to install further mods such as turbo.
