Thumbs down Newbies with Attitudes

I understand that if someone pushes the limits enough, they are banned. Ive seen a lot of this occur with newbies who come into the forums and automatically think they own them. Why do they do this? surely they arent that ignorant. Granted, I myself was once a newbie and didnt know what the hell was going on either, but I didnt act all big and bad and argue for the sake of doing it. I just find it stupid that a newbie can come in here and act as though the are immune from the mods or anything else. Am I the only one who has noticed this?

Teh Oz takes care of them for you. I don't really understand the point of this thread. Why not go for a troll and find some new stuff to post to OT?

this IS a stress release forum. he's just venting his rage about the cocky newbs that we've been experiencing as of late. ie. RockyV, who almost ruined OT for a day thinking it was funny to post one word answers on year-old threads. i would've liked to have been the one to press the "ban" button in that case...

Actually, I'm always pretty torn when I have to ban someone. I don't want to deprive someone of AF, yet understand that they're dragging the community down. Typically, there are a few exceptions, it doesn't feel good.

well, that i can understand. there's some members on here that i would like to see banned, but i can admit i would miss their antics if they were gone. RockyV came in on his first day and tore apart OT, and then kept coming back again and again. he's one exception.

It's not just the new members that are causing problems. It's amazing how quickly some people "assume ownership"of their favourite forums, and jump on anything that doesn't fit it with their ideal vision of what the board should be.

The forums are a public place,as I have said before, much like a bar. There is usually a core group of regulars, and any strangers would do well to exercise caution until they are reasonably well-known.What this doesn't mean, however,is that the regulars can systematically harrass any new member who chooses to speak. As it says in the guidelines,it's about respect.Respect by everyone, for every other member.

If you feel that another member is out of line, report them to a moderator. It's much easier for us to address the issues than for other members to try and shout them down.AF is NOT about shitfights.

Dear God,
It looks like this whole thread is aimed at me.....

I will say this though. I am the way I am because too many people are being influenced by Initial D and Super Street to go buy a 240SX and "drift".

This is bad in two ways.

1.Taking up all the good 240SX's and crashing them, resluting in a crackdown on my beloved sport

2.People DYING because they crashed. that is truly not cool.

I try to be curt/polite but when someone comes on with a stupid question I will go medevil.

* 10 please dont ban me

I think the newbs are just tryin to make a name for themselves, wether they notice it themselves or not. This happens in the school I go to, every year, when we get new ninth graders, they try to act tough but get shut down sooner or later by some of teh older guys.

Before my first post, I read all the rules/guidelines and understood the key of respct in the forum, something that some of the newbs skipped.

Actually, in the short time I've been posting here, I have to write that these are among the most behaved forums I've ever posted on!

good analogy. without scaring the noobies off, you can put them in their place in subtle ways. you have to keep in mind that odds are the majority of newbies probably are members of other boards as well. so they're not totally new to this kind of thing, just new to this particular board. and i'm sure you know that each site is different than the other, but the same principle remains. newbies usually learn overtime.

unlike Oz, i take pleasure in banning people. it's like a weekend getaway for me. who should i ban next? :hehe:

i'm jus playin.
