Re: castrol celica

Looking good so far. They are pretty tricky decals to apply, I found them to be quite brittle when I built this kit some years ago. When I re-built it recently I used Studio 27 aftermarket decals which were much more flexible and fitted the curves a lot better. You can try a little heat from a cloth or sponge dipped in hot water and it can sometimes help smooth out the decals.Or a little heat from a hair dryer, but go steady.Alternatively some Micro Sol can work wonders as well.

Re: castrol celica

I'm building this kit at the moment ("Completed" thread won't be long) and I have to say these decals are a NIGHTMARE. MicroSet (the soft one) does very little, MicroSol wrinkles and splits them, and don't even ask about Tameo decal solution. I had to order what I think was the last spare set from Tamiya UK and now I'm getting there.

I think a problem you're having is that you haven't painted the body shell? Decals (especially these crappy ones) don't work well on bare plastic. Maybe they'll settle down with a warm towel or hair dryer, then shoot them with a clear coat. Tamiya's "Park Green" is the ideal touch-in colour.

Good luck with the rest of your build, most of the rest of it goes together pretty well...!

Steve,

Where did find the replacement decals? I got this kit in my stash but the decals are cracked. I coated them with some liquid decal film, but I would perfer to have a S27 cartograf replacement set.

Anyway, nice work with those difficult decals. Looks like you picked the right driver. Although you probably should've painted the window trim before you started decaling it.

Re: castrol celica

yes, i agree, i did the no:3 one about 2 years after the no:7, the no:7 was origanall no:3, but when i started doing a nicer job i made it the number 7, i have to say, i dont think mine looked as good as your do right now,i hate to think of all the trouble those 2 bonnet vents caused with the decals, i cant wait see more!!

Hi Dave,

I used the S27 decals but built the red and white Repsol sponsored car from 1992 as driven by Carlos Sainz. Not sure if S27 ever did the Castrol decals.
