Super/Turbo Charge??

i have heard it can be done, but i wanna get some input: Would it be possible to Supercharge and Turbocharge and engine? I also heard that there would be a way to run the S/C until the turbo kicks in (from the lag) and then the S/C shuts off basically... Any input possible would be great.

A Supercharger is belt driven so unless you created some sort of clutch for it that disengauged when the turbo came on then I don't see how it would turn off. All of it is waaaaayyyy too much work for no gain at all.

I already replied to this exact same thread... Its not worth it. When you can get endyn to rebuild a JRSC to put out 15-16 PSI and 8Psi @ idle... Its more of an ooh ahh thing I have seen it before.

so basically just build the hell out of a S/C and it can put out as much if not more power than a turbo at all spectrums? i just know that turbo's put out more in hte long run, but you have to deal with lag, which is why alot of people go with S/C's. What is the most boost our engines can take?

I think that you would be very unhappy with a supercharger. Superchargers actually rob power on low end because they dont produce enough boost at low rpm to compisate for the extra weight your engine has to turn. You would have to take off at high revs all the time. And since our cars are not known for their torque you need all the low end you can get. If you wanna go forced induction a turbo is definetly the way to go. If you only push 8 - 12 psi then you can get a real small turbo that spools up real fast and you dont have to worry about much lag.

Question

I thought the whole idea was that sc's were always on, where as turbos don't really do anything until a certain rpm level. Is this right? If it is, it seems like the real question becomes which could give you more power and when do you want the power.

Like my sig says I'm still learning about the mechanics fo all this stuff.

Turbo is better for smaller engines, just get a smaller turbo and you will have less lag. S/C is more for V8 guys.

Heh? 8PSI at idle is robbing power? I think you would have about 220 WHP on a stock engine with 8PSI... Of course I wouldnt boost an engine with stock internals to 15-16 PSI. Then again I wouldnt use ANY trurbo on an engine with stock internals iether... But lets get the facts straight here, a Roots style blower is NOT gonna rob power ANYWERE in the powerband. Unlike a turbo, or a centrifugical SC which MUST be what your talkin about.

And how is a turbo "Better" for small engines? 480 WHP on an D16A6 is enough to convince me... That is a verry old viewpoint your taking and its alreay been dethroned. I have met a guy running an CRVTEC motor with an endyn rebuilt jrsc thats in the LOW 9's... He's gettin 640 whp. You can argue turbo vs SC but in the end its the dyno sheets and 1/4 mile times that make the diff Oh, by the way the dyno this guy showed me at modacar only fluxuates 67 hp throughout the ENTIRE powerband! Thats badass!

At idle a supercharger isnt pushing much boost, its just like a turbo in that it has to be spinning at a high rate before it starts to build pressure, the only difference is that a supercharger revs just as fast as your engine instead of being pushed by exhaust gas. At idle and low rpm it will rob power.

They are alot better for large engines because the slight loss with that much torque isnt gonna make a difference, but with are little engines you will notice a difference.
