Swapping???

Hey what's guys, i plan on buying a 97 2.5RS and swapping in the newer sti engine whenever someone actually wrecks the new by the time i get my subaru so it can be smog legal. I'm just wondering is it difficult to do, I'm new when it comes to working with subaru. I'm not really mechanically intelligent with the boxer engine either, i'm hoping to learn alot from anyone who's a subaru expert.

i'm guessing you'll need the complete crossmember and drivetrain, not just the engine. do you have any idea how much that stuff is gonna be?

btw there isn't a 97 2.5rs

i thought there was a 97 2.5RS, maybe i'm mistaken it for the japanese version. if you were to swap in a sti engine, you have to change the drivetrain, i thought it's possible to swap a engine in a car with the same drivetrain already. The 2.5 RS is AWD drive isn't it?

98 and 99 were the DOHC 2.5rs's, and 00 up are the SOHC's.

yes they are both awd, but its not the same drivetrain. the rs is a 5 speed with viscous center and rear lsd, the sti is a 6 speed with driver controled differentials. i don't know for sure, but im 95% positive that you'll need everything, right down to the axles and hubs. i'm not trying to be a downer, but if you can't straight up afford an sti, you probably can't afford the swap.

there are plenty of other options you could do for an RS or even a regular impreza that would cost tons less. you might want to look into those, even if you did have the money to do the sti swap, you'd be far faster going another route.

you could swap in an older, JDM sti motor even if you wanted to. that would cost much less.

i'm currently getting a 22b for my scooby, a (1998 ej22 engine) otherwise know as the 22b, supposebly only 400 car's were made that were equipped with this skyline, supra, and porshe beating engine, I currently am waiting for it to be shipped to me and then i'll transplant it, it is a front clip of the car coming with everything, I hope I can succesfully transpalant it, otherwise 3000 buck's just went down the drain, then I would need to find another dumbass as crazy as me who want's my engine that way I can get at least half of what I payed for it but this will certainly not happen, i got pro mechanic's in hand, hehe.

Dave...expect the unexpected alway's. guy next to me is saying to himself look at this dumbass trying to be all wise and noble and s@#$, what a queer, hehe.

why you say that, it's not that hard to get a 98 spec* sti clip, also the new engine is running perfectly but I can tell that it's been in that junkyard chopped for a long...........time, I need to break-in that way I can get maximum performance from it...hopefully.
