Exclamation 1.8T swap into A4 Jetta

Hello I was wondering has anyone done or know of any info on how I can swap a 1.8T into my friends 97 jetta? I found a whole engine swap for $1000 dollars but I can't find any info on how to do it or if it can be done. I know anythings possible but sometimes it isn't worth it ya know, any help would really be appreciated

it shouldn't really be that hard...

i know there's axles and what not that you need, but almost all vw engines bolt up to all vw trannys...

case in point...

overboost.com had an article about a guy that put a 1.8t into an older (mk2) golf... and used a mk3 jetta trans... so, it could feasibly bolt up to your tranny...

check with companies like www.rpi-equipped.com... they should have a tech line...

You have two options, get a AEB engine from a '98-'99 Passat or '97-'98 Audi A4. Or get a newer engine and use a Eurospec Sport ECU kit to eliminate DBW.
The engines will drop right in, but you need to use the 2.0rear motor mount.
The engine will bolt right up to a 2.0 02o tranny, but if you are planing more power, you should use a VR6 02a tranny. The 1.8t 02j tranny would fit with small modifications.

Ok wow you just blew my mind, you'll have to forgive me but I don't know jack about VW. My friend has one and I really want to help him out. Basically will this engine mount up in the same place? Or is there engine mount kits that I can buy? Thanks for all the help

The new body style Jetta or Passat I'm not really sure, I just looked at the engine but I'll find out, does it matter if its it Passat or Jetta? Do they have the same motor mounts?

Yes, same motor mounts, but early Passat's had non-dbw engines with better cylinder heads..

What about the ECU does it just plug in? Let me rephrase my last question, do they have the same motor mounts as the 97 Jetta?

You have to use the 1.8t ecu.

Use the 1.8t motor mounts in front, and keep the 2.0 motor mount in the rear.

Hey thanks a lot I really appreciate all your help, I'll post a pic when we're done. We've already done a lot of work to it we shaved all the door handles "Don't recommend it because I didn't know VW used a vaccum system for the door locks" but it can be done. He also has the whole strickly foreign body kit, we just need to get him so power. Thanks again

I want to mod up my engine, but what I want to know is, money and power wise is it better swap my engine and get a 1.8T or should I stick with my 2.0l?
