No such thing as forged steel engine blocks?

They have forged aluminum blocks, why not steel?

Simply not worth the cost.

Steel's not significantly lighter than iron and its heat resistance properties aren't great either. Aluminum is much lighter.

barely lighter, steel expands more then cast iron when hot and that causes hell, if you're going to spend the money and hav heat expansion then aluminum is the only one worth it.
Ti blocks are much the same, but they have better heat properties then steel does and can be in between aluminum and iron, with more strength then both, but you're talking insane pricetags.

ok i actually think that the iron bloks are not pure iron wich is hard to use in its native form . Its most likely an iron carbon alloy which is steel.

Iron blocks are usually sandcast in a cast iron alloy. In this way there are no need for liners. In an aluminum block liners must be used, or the cylinderwalls must be coated with Nikasil or similar. Wet liners are prefered before dry liners, and this creates a problem between the steel liner and aluminum block since the aluminum expands more than the steel. The latest is however coated ultra thin AlMC liners in an AlMC block, these are however very expensive.
Cast iron is a very good block material, the only downside is the weight. BMW even used cast iron blocks in F1 during the eighties.

They do make steel blocks.

There are already steel blocks in production, but you have to buy a TVR speed 12 to get one.
