Steel engine blocks??

Can anyone tell he how TVR uses steel on their engine blocks insted of iorn of alumanum, and why don't other companys use it? Is that why their cars are so light? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using steel?

You state they use steel as it is lighter than aluminium? Well steel is not lighter than amluminium, thats why everyone trys to use ali whenever possible.

I know that aluminium is by volume lighter, but if the steel is significantly stronger at high temperatures than you could use less of it. Somtimes the awanser is not how it appears on paper, just like the steel framed MiG 25 having a better airframe than it's American titanium counterparts.
Just think about this Viper Vs Speed 12. 8.0L engine vs 7.7L engine. 335mm rear tires vs 355mm tires. Aluminum engine vs steel engine. You would think that these cars weigh about the same since they share almost the same stats. but the speed 12 is about a thousand pounds ( about 454kg) lighter. And yes the speed 12 also uses a steel frame.

TVR's Engines are Alluminium.

I am pretty sure that all TVRs are made out of a tubular steel space frame. They don't use aluminum for space frames usualy because of it's poor resisrtance to fatigue.

the Chassis is Steel,
The bodywork is an Aluminium Honeycomb structure or something

Im fairly certain TVR's engines are an Aluminum alloy and their frames are an alluminum honeycomb monocoque. With a steel engine block or steel space frame their kurb weights would be way over 1000 kilos. TVR is also starting to play around with carbon fiber in their newer models (T440R, Typhon and Sagaris)

Any way that you look at it a 7.7L engine and a ridgid chassie, only weighing 1000Kg is very impressive why cannot other car companys do the same??? By the way I think that the body on the Speed 12 is completly carbon fiber.
