Why did they stop?
Why did they stop production on the Avenger?
I want one.

They weren't a Dodge, and Dodge is trying to stay away from that. They also had horrible resale value.

They didn't stop production of the car. They stopped use of the name. The Stratus coupe replaced the Avenger.

Yes, they replaced the Avenger with the Stratus Coupe. The Stratus Coupe is very similar to the Avenger...I don't see why you would think it's radically different.
Both the Stratus Coupe and Avenger are based on Galant/Eclipse underpinnings. Both are powered by Mitsubishi enignes and use Mitsubishi transmissions. Both came out of the former Diamond-Star Motors plant in Normal, Illinois. They could have just as easily called the Stratus Coupe Avenger...the 2nd generation Sebring coupe (same car) kept the name. |

uhm, actually, the 4 cyl avengers and sebrings used chrysler engines and transmissions, and were built in the US; Normal, Illinois, if memory serves, at the Diamond Star Motors plant. DSM being a joint venture of the chrysler corp and mitsubishi.
non-turbo eclipses and talons share the 420A chrysler powerplant. that's right... they're domestics, not imports.

The four-cylinder Avenger and Sebring coupes did use Chrysler-supplied engines. The second generation Eclipse/Talon also used non-turbo Chrysler fours as their base engines, although first generation 1.8/2.0L fours and the 2.4L found in the second and third generation models were Mitsubishi units.
Diamond-Star Motors became Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing in the mid-1990s when Chrysler sold their interest in the joint-venture. |

Re: Why did they stop?
420a = chrysler
4g64 = mitsubishi 4g or 6g in any engine of the engine codes is mitsubishi... with the Avenger/stratus/neon/eclipse/talon/sebring/anything else, if it's not the 420a, then it's not chrysler. EDIT: Correction, the 2.5l v6 probably isn't mitsubishi... i'm not sure... |

Re: Why did they stop?
The 2.5 V6 in the Avenger is the 6g73 Mitsubishi engine, little brother to the 3.0 (6g72) currently used in the Dodge Stratus, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Galant and on a side note the 6g73 can fairly easily be swapped for the 6g72, can also swap the 6g74 (3.5) into an Avenger but it takes a bit more work
For the guy asking about whether Avengers are good for performance use or not I'd say it depends on how much money you wanna put into it, in my opinion the stock V6 and auto tranny (ALL V6 Avengers are auto, only the I4 had a 5 spd) are kinda weak, once ya drop a 3.0 in and upgrade the final drive gears to Stratus gears then it's decent at least and no, you can't drop a 5 spd in to replace the auto....yet ![]() If it's any help I absolutely love my Avenger |

Re: Why did they stop?
The 2.5liter v6 is a mitsubishi. The 4 speed trans on that motor is a chrystler.
