Chevy small-block 305?

I was wondering what you guys thought about a certain engine. The engine is a small-block Chevy 305. All I hear is how powerful and small these engines are. Alot of street rodders use them for there rods 'cause they are the only ones that fit, and still have power. I am all Ford, but I hear this is an awesome engine, so I just wanted a few other opinions or experiences with or about this engine. I am not sure of HP #'s or torque, so if someone could fill me in on this it would be great help.

Thanks

I personaly think the 305 in a junk motor, now if it were a 350 thats a different story. Are you thinking of putting a 305 in your 68? Why not stay with a 302, its a damn good motor!

The 302 DZ is a 'badass' motor, at least the chevy guys continue to say; but the Ford 302 has the biggest aftermarket and probably the safest bet.

The chevy 305 smallblock was one of GM's mistakes that motor was really bad, the Ford 302 is a superior engine the 305 has a really long stroke and a small bore so it takes the engine forever to wind up and get any power, whereas with the 302 it has a shorter stroke and a bigger bore so it winds up really quick and builds good power fast. Right now I am driving a 1977 mustang with a 2.8 v6 in it stock, I raced a guy I knew he was in his 83 firebird transam with a 305 v8 with headers custom y-pipe flowmasters, and the car had crossfire throttlebodies, and I beat the guy, not by much but I still beat him, the 305 was a really bad engine.

Would it be a great deal if I rebuilt it for around $500 and sold it for about $1000. Is this a steal for me, or am I not going to get this much?

305 TPI - teh geigh. Some people build em up, some don't like to. But rebuild it and sell it if you want. Best bets are on the 302.

So do you think it would be worth using in anything if i rebuilt it, and put new heads on it, and carb. Would it be worth keeping for an experimental car?

Don't rebuild it and sell it you won't find anyone to buy it you can put new heads, cam, and intake on it and it still will not perform well, it's like I said it has a small bore and a long stroke, they build power VERY slowly, that engine was built in the 80's for economy not for power it is not a performance engine, if you ask any knowlegdgeable f-body or chevy guy they will tell you that it wasn't a good motor, most people who had them in their cars swapped them for 350's the 350 is a far superior motor so is the Ford 302.

I'm a 302 guy, but 305's arnt that bad when there around 7,000rpms. I mean brand new (2,000miles), there decent in power. But start putting miles on it and...well....let's just say it would be a close race w/ my mom's 2.2L 4WD truck.

hate on all ford, even the mustang
i hate all ford except for the mustang looks, if i had the money i would put a chevy 350 in it,
a chevy 350 imo is the best damn strongest motor ever, u can get these things into the 9's very easily, and they are extreamly simple and cheap cheap cheap!!!!
ever notice why everything is chevy when u goto a performance store? cause chevy dominates the racing world

by the way
a 305 is a very good motor, EXCEPT when they get into high milage, after that they are junk
a 305 is the exact same blueprint as a 350 its just scaled down a touch
305 for the size of the engine has sweet torque, my friends s-10 Jimmy rwith a 305 runs high 13's all stock except for an upgaded cam and carb

rear end and everything else is stock
this truck flies man

I knew they didn't do well in high mileage, and this is because of their cam. It wears down more than usual engines over time, they are notorious for it. 350 cams don't do this though, so i was planning on putting a 350 cam in the 305 with a 4 barrel carb and headers.(besides the full rebuild i am doing right now). I am using this engine becuase a 350 will not fit in a street rod as I am planning to build. Maybe you guys will understand why I am considering this now, no room in the bay! I also plan of a full port and polish, had the heads redone already. Thank for your replies, if you have any other performance suggestions, please reply.
