Why do you build models?
Do you build models because you like the car, or are you bored, I mostly build because i like the car i am building.

stress relief. with work and school, I'm pretty tense. Building models helps me relax. I only build models of cars I'm interested in though.

I build models because I love cars and I love "little cars". I've been fascinated with models or "replicas", not necessarily toys, since I was a kid.
With models I have a creative outlet-I'm artistic, I love to paint and detail and build things (doesn't have to be models or cars, either). I can build a concept of a car I'd like to see and drive in real life. I prefer working in 3D than on paper. And I can build models of cars I couldn't ever imagine owning in real life. Heck, I've built models of cars I'd never be caught dead in! Sometimes weird cars make cool models. It's also a stress reliever, though sometimes stressful in it's own way because of challenges in construction or detailing. And just like most other builders I'm an attention whore...I love showing off my models as much as I love seeing other people's latest models, keeps me inspired for my own building and vice-versa. |

LOL Attention whore. HAHA!
Anyway, I build models because I want the cars, I love the cars & I don't know what else my life could be if cars weren't around. Just like I want a real Trans Am i'm going to find the biggest damn kit I can of it and i'm going to build it just how I want my real one. |

I`m in it for the girls.... the babes and the money.
Yeah right. Actually, I try to build cars I like, but will never be able to afford. Right now I am working on a 427 vette. I can`t imagine having one in real life, yet one in near new condition, but I can have one in 1/12 scale. |

Mostly to bring out my artistic abilities. The thing i dont get is that we build all these models but what do we do with them afterwards? Stare at them? So why do we all really do it then? I get so confused with this hobby when i think about it like this.

Why I build cars huh? I've always been a car nut, ever since I recieved my first Hot Wheels! Now a days, I build cars that I either love, or model something that I wouldn't do in real life! It's all about expressing your self with these cars, and always impressing yourself in the end! It takes a lot of patience and fustration, if something dosen't go right, then you need the patience to fix whatever is wrong(which can last for years).
IMHO, I think EVERYONE should give a shot at modeling, it'll teach them great lessons in life! Am I right?

I build models because they are a way of owning a Ferrari, NSX, Supra without actually having to pay hundreds of thousands for them.

I guess another reason is to admire them after you are done with the models. When you're done with them, and you look from far away, it actaully looks like you have a real car in your living room

they didn't like me having almost 400 posts a day on here, so I picked up an old hobby that I could still be involved with AF.
![]() haha, actually I've loved cars my whole life. Collected hot wheels since a child, then probably at the age of 10-12 I started with model cars. I would put them together in about 2 hours, no paint, no detail. Then I discovered paint, wow, they got better. So I would completely paint a whole model and put it together in a couple days. Then came the day when I found the modeling forum, probably at about age 17. Since then I notice my models getting better and better each time, they even involve primer now. I guess I'm getting side-tracked now, but anyways I build models for the love of cars. I love hondas/acuras and so I'm about to start my 5th integra. I like to build cars that I really like, and find out cars that my friends/family like and build one for them. It's all for the love of cars.

Several of the previous answers are my reasons as well, I love cars, I build models that I will never see here in the US (unless I become a multi-millionare), cars I like...etc. Heck I tell my wife that I do it because our garage isn't big enough to work on multiple 1:1 scale projects. When I get tired of static kits, i work on my multiple RC cars...then go back to my models or comics or video games or gaming miniatures or drawing...sigh too many hobbies.

because i want to make my models unique, once i get my hands on a digital camera u'll see what i mean, i try to make my models to resemble the real thing straight out of japan. i use colors that i've never seen people used for that car, (a yellow R32? i've been lookin thru this gallery but havnt seen one yet) how many R32 hav one RED Recaro? and R34 rims
it might not look like what you see at shows like "Tokyo Auto Salon" or "Hot Import Nights" but it definetly looks like something you'll see on the streets of japan....atleast i think it does
