Flocking Material?

Hi guys. I'm new here, but I enjoy reading your posts

I'm currently in the process of building a Fujimi Porsche 356 Carrera:

I purchased some Flocking Material in order to make the carpet (in ivory color) and I'm wondering if anyone has experience in using it?

Got any pics?

Thanks!

Sean

Welcome

The 356 is a great kit !

Have you tried the Scale Motor Sports Faux Fabrix? It's like flock in a spray can, E.Z. to use and it looks great. You can buy it in 2 colours only, but it is no problem to paint over it with your normal hobbie paints.

I used on probably about 30 cars so far. It definitely looks better than a regular painted floorboard. I used the stuff from detail master and kens custom fuzzy fur. If applied right, it really looks convincing. Here are some tips that might be helpful:
* Use paint underneath that is very close to the same color as the flock material. Flocking is translucent, and you will see the underneath paint color.
* Use a mix of 2 parts flat and one part gloss. Never use gloss only, or you will have shiny spots poking through the otherwise flat flock. I use just a little gloss cause it seems like the flats dry to fast if doing a big area with precise areas.
* Use more paint than you think you will need. Once the paint dries, it doesnt stick to the flocking material, and its really hard to touch up with this stuff, if not impossible.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, that tutorial .pdf is great!

I'll certianly post pictures when the car is more complete. In the 356 kit there's nothing to represent the rubber floormats (except under the pedals) so I'm modeling that as well, along with map pockets, and speakers right above.
