im having trouble with paint right now on a WRX STi. it started out great.. but then today i took it outside to put some gloss on it. so i put the gloss on, and i go inside to wash off my hands some. i came back outside to find it lying upsidedown in a pile of mulch. and this gloss decided to act as a paint thinner at the same time, so in trying to clean my car off did i leave fingerprints all over it, but i got paint allllll over my hands leaving some blue spots on the car. so i tried to get some of it off. then i let it dry, sanded it down, and put on more paint in hopes of covering it up. it actually didnt work that bad.so i put in a box to dry and put it on top of the civic in my driveway. then as the paint was drying again, (you would think i would learn from my mistakes) it apparently slipped down the front of the car, and fell onto the driveway. a little bit of dirt but not oo bad. so i figured that i could just sand it down a bit more and put on another coat of paint and all will be better. but then i look at it and its starting to lose its detail because of too much paint. AAAARRRRGGHH!!! everything else is ready to go now too. i just need to fix the body and stick it on. *MEGA-SIGH*

Sounds like you are going to have to strip all the paint off and start again dude.

You've only painted base coats, right? No detail yet?

If you want to go ahead and strip all the paint from the car body, here's what you do:

Go to your local auto supply store and buy a bottle of Castrol Super Clean, a pair of rubber gloves and a cheap brush with medium bristles. You also need a plastic tupperware-like box that's bigger than the car body.

1. Wear gloves.
2. Pour all the CSC into the plastic box.
3. Put the car body in the plastic box, in the CSC. Don't worry if the car isn't completely covered, you can let it sit, then flip it over to get the other side later.
4. Let it soak in there for at least four hours.
5. Use your gloved finger to rub some of the treated paint. If it smears off, it's almost ready. When it wipes off, it is ready.
6. Use the brush to scrub all the paint off.
7. Wash the body with water.

You can re-use the CSC if you filter it back into the bottle. And it's biodegradeable, so if you spill, just wash with water.

Worked great for my NSX.

awesome. thanks alot for the info. maybe i can get to that tommorow. i can say that ive learned from this. on my next model im going to make sure that it cant blow around if its outside, also keep it FAR FAR FAR away from any mulch.

Also, make one of these out of a coat hanger. You can slide a car body over the top. You may have to tape it there. Then put something heavy on the bottom.

I find oven cleaners really good on getting paint off as well... but not every brand is good, test it on some skeleton first to make sure it won't melt it away. :o I hate removing paint... grrr

Yeah. I did strip the paint. It came off fine. I repainted it and it wasnt looking too bad... yet. It was sitting in my room while i was working on a different model, and then while I was outside priming the body of my F-40, my sister decided to play with a bouncy ball and somehow it found its way into my STi. Thats what I was told at least. Either way, now the winshield is cracked, its missing the A-beam on the right, and the B-beam on the right is broken. So now it just sits on my dresser and I know that I will never build anything as bad as that.

Na, sorry, I dont have a digital camera or one of those cameras that hook up to the computer (I forget what they're called). But its an old kit. Made in 1988. I got it for $5 plus shipping off ebay.
