Depends on the type of paint. Some paint brands respond well to Automotive polish, some don't. Maybe you can list the type of paint and the type of polish, and see if anybody in here has ever tried the combination before.

Automotive laquers(Duplicolor etc.) are about the only paint to use automotive rubbing compound on, It's just to course and hard on hobby paints especiallly enamels. If you want a good polish to remove heavier orange peel go to a Motorcycle shop(preferrably HARLEY DAVIDSON)and ask for Simichrome Metal Polish. Also go to automotive stores(PEP BOYS etc.) and get some Maguires #7 Show Car Glaze(use it after the simichrome)

Don't get turtle wax rubbing/polishing compound. Not worth it. 3m products have always done me well.

I've used RainDance car polish and Zymol car wax on Dupli-Color, Tamiya, and Gunze lacquer paints, and they didn't cause any problem.

Can you use automotive rubbing compound?
Hi Auto,
It depends on the type of paint you use. I use Halfords spray paint, and I wait for it to cure (usually for about 1 week or two). I then rub it down with Halfords Rubbing Compound. It would bring out a nice smooth shine. You can leave it like this, but if you want more (like me) apply a coat of Halfords Clear Lacquer and rub that down at a later date. Word of warning. If you do apply more paint over the top, don't forget to clean the surface with a little mild washing up detergent first, otherwise the paint will not adhere. Hope this is of some help. ES
