DupliColor automotive lacquers

I HIGHLY recommend this stuff! I tried it today on one of my old models and I was VERY impressed with it. It goes on smooth, shiny, and even. It dries quick and polishes very well. If any of you guys use testors, throw out all those crap cans and give duplicolor a try. One of the better things is that unlike testors, which you have to make a basecoat of silver for metallic colors, duplicolor doesn't require a metallic base color.

Duplicolor is indeed good stuff and easy on the wallet too. ive only tried their primer for my GK figures and it goes on smooth but its too strong for plastic. every time i spray it on it eats into the plastic and casuses orange peel, but i found a way around this. i just spray the primer into a bottle and airbrush it on. im also intrested in the Mirage set, im gonna have to give that a try some day.

Yeah be sure to give the model around 2-3 coats of primer to make sure everything is covered.

Since I started using duplicolor, I try to use it whenever I can. I used on both the `69 Camaro and `41 Willy`s that I posted recently. It is much cheaper than Testors or Tamiya, covers better, cures faster, and rubs out better. Plus, you can buy their "truck, van, and suv" paints which I believe are 12oz and cover quite a few models for the same price of one Tamiya can.
I wish they made a bright yellow or orange though.

Duplicolor is good stuff no doubt. Thir clear coat is good too. You do need to make sure you primer good because it is hot paint. Especially beware of silvers they tend to be the hottest chemically.

Just BEWARE of defective cans. I have bought cans and had the nozzle break after one spray!! It all spurts up through the exit hole and you have a mess, along with a waste of money. I'm told that may happen when the store stacked boxes of cans upside down. All I know is, while the paint is good to use for models, it's luck of the draw as far as "will this can work??"

Hey magicmanjk808, just go to Walmart. The cost is only $4.16 for the truck and van large can and $3.something for the smaller auto cans.

Like someone said, the cost is less than the Tamiya Sprays and if you are not choosy then it's all good.

I used to get Lacquer mixed at a auto parts store but they don't want to do it for me anymore. They want me to use Polyurathane. Forget that! That's some "KILLER" stuff, literally.

Has anyone sprayed HOK(House of Color) lacquer paints????

House of Kolor paints are pretty expensive, but I assume they are worth the investment. I'd assume the colors go better with hot rod/street models since most are kandy this, or metallic this and that. Great spectrum of eye-catching colors.

Does it need the duplicolor primer to prime the model?
Can duplicolor spray over tamiya primer?

I would use the Duplicolor primer since it is made for the Duplicolor paints. There might be a reaction with the tamiya primer when the duplicolor paint is sprayed on it.

I painted Tamiya paint over the duplicolor primer with no problems though and cleared the Tamiya paint with Duplicolor Lacquer clear also with no problems.

I find that the Duplicolor primer has a texture to it that shows under color coats, so make sure you sand it out a bit......
