COMPLETE: Customer's 1995 Caprice Wagon

This was probably the most fun and creative of the wagons I've built--not my personal style, with the wheels and all, but challenging and fun to build.

The kit, like the others, is a modelhaus resin transkit of a Caprice Wagon, using a Revell-Monogram Impala SS chassis. Both the interior and exterior are Dupli-color GM Light Adriatic Blue, just like the real car (although it turned out a BIT darker in person than the real car, not sure why). Like the real car, the body was shaved and smoothed (smoothy bumpers front and rear, trim removed, roof racks removed), and the customer asked me to put the single thin chrome strip down the side of the wagon, as he will be doing the same with the real car very soon.

The wheels are one-off resin pieces cast by rsxse240 (feel free to hit him up if you're interested in a set yourself ), and then chromed by ChromeTech USA (who are great, btw.) They were cast based on the gold wheels found in the Impala SS Low-Rider kit, so they're 18" in scale, using the tires and hubs from the kit.

Only things left to do is a black wash on the grille to give it some depth (forgot before I took pics) and his custom licence plate. Comments welcome!

Now it's time to tackle an Olds Custom Cruiser, converted from a Roadmaster kit.

Aaaaand, I just realized looking in the pics that he has a trailer hitch--guess I need to fab one of those up too! I'll post pics of that when I'm done.

That looks very good, even the cast wheels! I might have to get my hands on one of these 4 dr wagon kits. I have the alternomad kit which I cut the top off and never completed.

WOW, that turned out great. Honestly, I didn't think those wheels were going to turn out that great, but HOLY CRAP!!! that chrome just pops! the car looks great too. I bet the reason for the darker color could be the primer you used. GM usually uses a very light gray for their brighter colors such as light blues, whites, and yellows, then darker primers for darker colors. Then it might just be the lighting as you may not be getting enough sunlight reflected from the metallic.
