2000 Venture - Air Filter

Just bought a 2000 venture and looked at the air filter placement. Any advice on changing it. Also, bought car from small dealer, and we don't know anything about previous mainteince records, what should I do now? Trans flush, rad flush, etc. Runs good now, no leaks, no blowback from the motor when I open the oil cap. Thanks.

Re: 2000 Venture - Air Filter

What mileage? What engine?
I would change engine oil and keep it change on a regular service.
Go easy on a transmission flush.
A pan drop and filter is the safest way to service a transmission.
3 year or 50 K is a good rule on rad coolant service.
The air filter start by having a good look at the air filter box/housing.
If no records on service history have every thing looked over good.
Fuel filter and brakes and belts and hoses and look for fluid leaks and check all fluid levels.

Re: 2000 Venture - Air Filter

Here is a link to an older thread on this forum that dealt with the air filter:http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t336997.html
As far as i know the only engine available in the Ventures (1997 to 2005) was the 3.4 . I agre on what MT said about the tranny flush, I'd just replace the filter and whatever fluid volume that comes out during the filter change. What you could do is look at your owner's manual as a guide. Towards the back of the manual are charts for maintenance at certain mileage intervals. Find the one closest to your current mileage and follow the guidelines. Just remember to keep an eye on your radiator overflow tank as a sudden drop can indicate the beginnings of the ill fated intake gasket leak.
Some people may say you should get a Carfax report on the vehicle to see what maintenance work might have been performed on the vehicle. I say to save your money as from my prior experience with these reports they do not always have all of the times the van was in for maintenance and /or what type was performed. The report is only as good as the info that is available and inputed into it.
