Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
I ran into this brand at my LHS and tried getting some info on them online before I bought their paints. However, there isnt a whole lot about them, and especially on their Lime Gold Kandy. I went ahead and risked it. Besides, you cant find progress without testing things out.
I was (and still am) looking for a shiny, gold-yellowish, gloss paint for a model im currently making and went ahead and bought this thinking it'll do the job pretty nicely. The guy at my LHS suggested Kustom Kolor's paint samples on their spray can lids are pretty accurate to the color. I went ahead and followed the recommendations Kustom Kolors suggests we do to get the best looking results. I applied AE102 (Base Silver) followed by the color AE108 (Lime Gold Kandy). The results are as followed: ![]() ![]() ![]() I didnt bother wasting my time applying the clear coat. The result was without a doubt off from the gold-yellowish look I was trying to get. BIG THUMBS DOWN! Also, pardon for the low quality of the pictures. I took them with the only camera I own, my cellphone.

That is good paint, the fact you didn't get the desired color is unrelated to the quality of the paint.

I would expect green in a color with lime in the name. Maybe a lemon color over a gold base might be closer to what you were looking for.

Or you could try a silver basecoat and mix clear yellow and clear orange to get the wanted shiny yellow/gold color.

http://www.kustomkolorpaints.com/kus...or/aerosol.jsp My mixing is limited to small bottled paints, since I live in an apartment and dont have the work space to use airbrushes. I was also left wanting to try cobra color's paints but the lack of work space left me

Re: Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
I see what you mean. From their color chart you would not guess what the colors really are. I used the Gamma Gold (bottle color) on a project and it doesn't look anything like the chart color. From their listings there doesn't seem to be anything in their spray line that will give you the color you want.

Re: Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
I was looking at the paint last week myself. I had that color and the silver in my hand and I didn't get them since I knew nothing about them. They also had this green paint in the same line, I'm surprised that the gold went down so greenish even over a sliver base. Otherwise it looks pretty even and smooth.
Is this paint a lacquer or enamel base? I usually buy the HOK Black Gold paints directly from them, which are lacquer based. Bob |

The Kustom Kolor line is enamel.

Re: Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
I still have some kandy lime gold left. I'll try it over a white base once i remove the paint from the model and see how it comes out.
The actual paint looked as if it were clear coat with greenish metallic flakes mixed into it. I had to spray several coats so the color starts to cover the base coat color. Then it started to get greener. The chassis has like two coats more than the body.

Re: Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
I would go with a white but preferably a gold base to get that golden yellow color you are looking for.
Im sure you know but...the more coats you lay down of kandies the darker and richer the color becomes. Good Luck |

Re: Very brief Kustom Kolor paint review w/pictures
You guys have any suggestions what gold would be the best to try? I have a can of Tamiya gold but its a bit on the brownish side. I use that for wheels.
