Winter Tire Help

I currently have 195/65-15 on my car, and use those for the non winter season. I want to buy winter tires to fit the 15" rims that i have now. Can I get 195/50? or how about 205/55? Will wider tire give you more handling in the snow, or less since the tire will be more likely to roll over the snow rather then digging into it (or something like that). Someone please help me on what to do, thanks.

All things being equal, a narrower tire is better.

I read an article a number of years ago where a major tire manufacturer found through testing that depth of tread made more difference than tread pattern. Also, if you are looking for winter tires, a hydrophilic tire. They tend to stay soft even in cold weather. The European winter tires tend to be the best from all accounts I've read.

Alright thanks, Ill probably stay with the 195 then. But how about the sidewall? Do you think I can go with the 195/60 like on the G20t or should I stick with the 65's?
