Disappointing 0-100, how do I launch the auto better?

Hi all,

My flatmate and I took our cars out last night for some 0-100 and 80-120 testing.

His car: 1997 Prelude VTEC auto w/ tiptronic. (totally stock)
My Car: 1994 R33 GTS25T Skyline auto. (totally stock)

We both ran 7.5 0-100. I was kinda disappointed. I think I am not launching as well as I should.

Whats the best way to launch an auto? I had the Overdrive off, but the power/snow switch was in the middle (not at either setting). I started of at no RPMs and just mashed it when the lights went.

I read somewhere that you can hold the brake down and rev it up to 3k or something and then let go to build some boost before the launch. Is this true? Is that the best way to launch?

Your talking 0-100kph, and that is pretty good 7.5.

With an auto, it just you and the car. Try different stuff, that all. Hell if the weather conidtion change, you have to as well. A good start that works in a 100* weather will not work when its 40*. You just have to practice. Good luck

well the best way to launch a high powered skyline is rev to the limit, and let the clutch go. i would say for youre car, the best is about 3 or 4k

Hey Matty,

I posted in SDU, but I'll repeat myself here. We've found in Andy's car (auto), that planting the foot when the light goes green doesn't work too well. If we use a lighter throttle opening till it gets moving a bit, then either mash the pedal (Andy) or feed it on (me) it works much better.

Hey dude.

What I found works best for me is hold on ya brakes, put down a little bit of gas pedal until you feel the rear about to let go, at that stage, release the brake and push your foot down on the gas pedal. I had the car in 2nd, with the selecter to power (it alters the timing slightly to give a little extra oomph)
Practice makes perfect...... especially working out when you'll break traction. You could also try using the handbrake too, see what happens. I haven't done that yet. When I get mine right, I can get into the high 5s bracket quite consistantly.

Launching a Skyline Auto

Left foot hard on the brakes, rev the engine (slowly) until you start building boost, then before the rears break away floor it and launch. Best launch rpm depends on available traction from the tyres. You should be able to get below 7 seconds 0-60.

FYI I have a R32 GTS-t and I can have the car completely stationary on the brakes and blue smoke pouring off the rears.

I agree with Nemesis. Wherever your boost kicks in is where I would keep it at just before you let go of the brakes to launch. That way your boost will already be kicking in.
