Need advice on custom interior/upholstery

I need some help on a decision. I have a 66 Pontiac Bonneville that is stripped bare awaiting a dip tank session. I plan on a completely custom interior when this is done with possibly a 60/40 split front seat, in which case the stock bench would be useless. Am I correct that I should keep the rear cushions because they'll just be repadded and recovered?

Its already been over two years and I'm tired of storing the bulky front bench. Should I junk it? Sell it? Any reason that it would come in handy when building a new seat for the front?

Re: Need advice on custom interior/upholstery

If you're going with a 60/40 split bench did it come out of another car the same year as yours if not then you would probably want to keep at least the mounting part of the old bench seat to have the mounting brackets if needed. The back seat will probably be best if it's just repadded and re-upholstered as there's probably nothing wrong with the actual seat itself.

The reear seat would just be re-padded (if it even needed it, bepends on the condition of them) and the new covers stitched and then installed. If you KNOW the 60/40 seat will fit fine in your 66, then do what you please with the OEM seat. If you are not sure, I'd keep it in the garage or a back room until I know I don't need it. Once you know the other seat installs fine, then do whatever you feel like with it. I never get rid of the OEM parts until I know there's nothing I need off of them, until everything else is installed and working properly. You never know when you'll need some weird part off of the OEM piece when doing a project like that.
