83 944 runs rich

My 83 944 runs extremely rich , changed o2 sensor(did not help), been told engine temp sensor might be bad, any imput? Also had bad are 944's on timing belts, don't know the history on mine but i'm sure it needs to be changed, i've heard all these stories about how it takes a $500 tool to adjust the thing , anyway around that? Thanks for any help.

o2 sensor

there is an adjustment on the maf flow sensor.. looking at the top of the air induction at the maf, you'll see a small ( the size of a dime)silver cap. this cap has a allen screw adjustment to adjust the air - fuel mixture. i don't know that much about it , but they say you can take a electric meter and read the volts at the 02 sensor, it should read ( at idle) around 4.6-6.0 volts. this may stop the rich problem.. i had the opposite with to lean and it worked great, also make sure the rpm's are @900+- to remove the cap be careful, take a small 2mm drill bit and drill a small hole in it. then take a small screw and insert it in the hole, you should be able to pull up on the cap and expose the allen screw, ...
