Well boys , this another kit rescued from my X-files store , the Celica XX 2.8GT of Tamiya (Celica Supra 2nd gen.)
This kit is prepared to be motorized , but as all old Tamiya kits interior details donīt get compromised , and in fact itīs rather good. The steering wheel comes from the Z10 Soarer , though. Anyway is really similar without the Griffon emblem. Itīs also designed to house bulb lamps on the retractable head lights. They open via a simple system pressing a button on the underside. The bad thing is that donīt match really in height the lights covers with the bonnet. Or rather , i did it wrong, donīt know. A Pitty about the engine lack. There are some Fujimi series of the `83 Celica XX models with a very detailed engine called Hi-MEcha , but they are really difficult to get and the Fujimiīs body of this Celica is quite bad. Tamiya did also a PAce car variant with another kind of rims and rear spoilers.Apart the rotating roof lamps and other decals This old `81 Celica XX is accompained by a little bike in 1/24. I think itīs a Yamaha Beluga scooter or the like.Nice "gift" anyway for the same price.Inside the box you will also find the little electric motor and a figure for the driver , which looks like Steve McQueen and is always present in all old JApanese car Tamiya kits.

Wasn't there a Supra earlier than this Celica? Seems like I remember a smooth bodied car with chrome in the grill.

Good job! I was planning on getting the Celica XX made by Fujimi, anyone know anything about it's quality?

the Fujimi kit isnīt a great thing in terms of proportions , unless the model you want to do has inside the hood an engine. In that case , at least will have something good. Better to pick the Tamiya one.Or even someothersī, the kind of Nichimo or Aoshima.
The best kit of this car , must be the 1/20 from Bandai. All the releases dates given by Jay , are related to the US market. For the japanese one , were in each case a year earlier. |
