need help with putty, i've searched but found no answers
wassup, im not sure if this has been answered, but i couldn't find it in the searches i did. anyway, im working with tamiya 2 part epoxy putty, smooth type and was doing some body work. after sanding and primering, i thought i was ready for the final coat. after i sprayed the final coat, i noticed, you could see where the putty was because the paint shinier there. is it because im using the smooth type? any help will be appreciated. thanks.

If you can find it get some Duplicolor Primer sealer and spray that over the primer. Also if you go to an Automotive supplier that deals in paints etc. for real cars get DYNATRON PUTTYCOTE glazing spot putty. It is a two part mix. It is designed to seal other fillers and putties, it is the finest grain putty available, it can even be polished to a shine, it's great stuff. Dynatron is owned by BONDO and Bondo sells something called Bondo Ultimate at WAL-MART and K-MART that might be the same because it uses a blue hardening cream also and it costs allot more than regular BONDO. Give it a try you won't be sorry.

Sounds like primer wasn't thick enough. Thinner primer is desirable, so that it won't make the details dull, but after doing some major body work, this rule may not apply. What you can do is to spray a few coats of primer, then sand the entire body with fine grit sand paper, such as 2000 grit. Clean the body, and add another few light coats of primer. The 2nd coat of primer should fill the scratches on the first primer, and that will probably make the surface uniform. If not, try polishing the primer, before adding another layer.
This also applies to polyester putty and typical modeling putty. |
